Man reunites with Gorilla he raised as his son.

Did a search & couldn't see this posted, so I'll do the honors.
A friend sent me this link, & I thought fellow ATS'ers would enjoy this as much as I did.

After 5 years of being in the wild, Damian Aspinall is reunited with Kwibi, a gorilla he raised like a son. After spending a day bonding with Kwibi and his family, Damian managed to duck out while Kwibi gathered some raisins, much to Kwibi’s dismay.

From 3:43 to 3:48 If you look into his eyes you can see confusion and pain in his eyes, it makes me wonder what he thinks of the man who raised him.

Agreed, I was thinking the same thing.

I am always amazed at stories like this where a wild animal lovingly remembers their carers from babyhood.

At the section you pointed out, I swear the gorilla has a 'Mona Lisa', nostalgic kinda smile.

I just saw pure joy at seeing her daddy again ,& at just being in his vicinity.

The clip ended far too early.I could watch this stuff for ages.

Sorry, don't take this personally OP but I think this guy is a TOTAL *bleep*!

If that gorilla would have attacked him? They would have SHOT HIM. DEAD!

Worse? (In a way) - He goes and plays kissy-face with the gorilla - and then ABANDONS him again.

"Yeah, toss a raisin over there and when he goes for it I'm back in the boat'.

Thanks for the perspective, as I didn't see it like that at all but can see your point.

Your remark about the gorilla attacking struck me as well, & I too wondered how they would respond, but the story moved along so quickly that I forgot about it.

I'm in Oz & only heard about this for the 1st time last week.
That is truly shocking (1st time I've heard the 911 call)
I cant imagine the horror of such an experience.

A reminder of the times when the carers aren't 'loved'.
When its good its heartwarming, but when it goes wrong....

I was bit by a monkey when I was 4, it was 1978 and I went to a pet shop with my mum to get some fish food and while my mum was talking to the owner, I saw a monkey in a cage and I let it out, he jumped on my head and bit me, I started running around screaming with this poor monkey biting my head untill my mum punched it.
Had to stay in hospital for a week after.
Don't know what happened to the poor monkey .

How bloody scary for anyone,especially a 4 yo!

Its great to see that even though the experience had a deep effect -(Your username!), , you didn't let it be a negative one.

It would've given your poor mother a heart attack!!- (Though she sounds like a force to be reckoned with! Tough lady!)

How did your parents handle the aftermath? (They did something right!)

Dunno really, I loved all the attention I got (nurse's) and I started being called boymonkey by my Mum and my mates at play group were dead jealous, also I got a lot of monkey toys

Counseling? in 1978 in the north of England nah mate we hadn't heard of that yet


When I think back to it (I was 4) its in 3rd person mode weird that, but it was one of my Mums fave stories to tell girlfreinds when I was younger.

Ha ha, I'm of your era , but in Oz, & it sounds as though counseling was as well known there as here!!
(Lucky, you probably wouldn't have come out of it all as good )

The 3rd person mode is weird. Maybe its because you hear the story retold from your mums perspective ( & others?) over the years ,that it intertwines with your own memories?
Anyhow, glad you ok!

Ha ha,no problem!

Maybe it has to do with your frame of mind when you watch...we see what we choose to focus on (It really did warm my heart!! ) .
I'm fully capable of seeing the 'negatives' on my dark days!
