Far be it for me to tell you how to protect yourself. By no means am I trying to tell you that.
HOWEVER. The criminal breaking in is already at a steep disadvantage.

1. They don't know the lay out.

2. They don't know if there are animals in the house that could alert you to his presense

3. They don't know if you are armed or not.

4. If it's dark enough they won't see you coming.

Might I also recommend that you get a super bright tactical LED light that you put on your home defense weapon? Once you shine that in the eyes of a burglar in the dark they are blinded. You can then go to town on center mass.

Yeah. I agree. Body armor isn't going to be that effective in protecting ones self from home invasion.
I mean, get one if you want, but doubt you will have time to slip it on when its go time. They are generally for people expecting violence. Also most of the vests don't protect from stabs.

I agree with project, get yourself a blinding light and put it on your gun.
I would also suggest a pump action shot gun for home protection. That racking sound alone is enough to send a burglar running.

Love my Remington 870 tactical.

I don't leave it unchambered though. If someone breaks in they have officially signed a consent form to be target practice.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but getting shot with body armor on can still hurt like a mother and knock the wind out of you..

I don't see how this would give you the advantage? Well, I guess if you can recover really quickly and play dead until his guard is down. That is IF he gets the first shot.

Though, I like Vix's idea with the FLIR unit, I think I would shut off the power and hide in an area with that to get the drop.

You bet it hurts. Soft body armor doesn't protect against blunt force trauma. That's why they invented rifle plates and trauma plates.

They have their limits though.

It's still super effing expensive though.

I have a Level IIIa concealment w/ trauma plate that I used in my former life , It only protects against handguns and weighs next to nothing , those vests had to be comfortable during an 8 or 16 hour shift or guys simply wouldn't wear them.

I also have a Level III E SAPI rig that was "aqquired" GEAR ADRIFT IS A GIFT , I use that to get my heart rate up when doing "run n gun" with my pistol and mags attatched to the rig it's gotta weigh close to 20 lbs.

In the event of a Home Invasion , I honestly wouldn't try to don either one of them because of the time involved. I'd grab my cellphone off of the nightstand and go straight to the safe and grab my 590A1.

There is a rig that's actually set up for home defence, it's called the DEFENDER and it's made by US P.A.L.M , I've never seen one nor do I know anyone that owns one , but the Idea is you keep it at the ready with your pistol, cell phone, flashlight and extra mags stored in it , it only offers front ballistic protection so it doesn't weigh much and it looks like it can be put on in about 2 seconds.

I've got a toddler and a teenager in my house so all firearms are secured in the safe at my house , but I guess I could see how something like that could be useful in a household with no children.

Oh, and don't forget...wearing any sort of body armor that isn't concealed screams "Please shoot me in my face"
Although you should be fine if you have the tactical advantage of suprise, darkness, and being the "Home" team.

Oh yeah, the bullet might not pierce you, but it will still bust a rib.

aren't BPV's illegal in some parts?

and using them while defending yourself against the depredations of certain creatures or Orgs. will get you extra years in the joint.

edit to add NVM see that's been addressed

better to invest in increased mobility, surveillance, firepower, and most important invisibility
if your house doesn't look attractive or is not visible at all...

reputation helps a lot no junkie sneaks onto my property to steal oranges or anything else not since i threw one off a second floor L

Body armor for home protection would only be wise if you had time to put it on. When you're in combat timing is evrrything. You will not always be wearing BA and you better have it and your firearm within lengt

Under federal law its perfectly legal to possess as long as you are not a felon, but you need to check your local state laws to see if it is legal there.. Just type in "is body armor legal in *****" Or just call your local PD.

This place sells to civilians, as do many others.
www.bulletproofme.com...

I can see soft armor being useful if your shacked up at home during a SHTF situation. Most likely any thugs you might encounter are going to have pistols.
