I remember in late 2009 when media in my country first reported this story and people weren't sure what to think, since it didn't really seem like the usual cheesy sensationalism. I was extremely interested in what would follow.. and what followed was - no coverage, nobody ever heard anything about it again. In fact, the story got more foreign coverage, albeit most of it being in a sneering tone.

First of all, let's get this straight to the audience: this guy is actually a credible scientist

Link to his CV

The story:

www.telegraph.co.uk...

Aliens from outer space are already among us on earth, say Bulgarian government scientists who claim they are already in contact with extraterrestrial life. Work on deciphering a complex set of symbols sent to them is underway, scientists from the country's Space Research Institute said. They claim aliens are currently answering 30 questions posed to them. Lachezar Filipov, deputy director of the Space Research Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, confirmed the research. He said the centre's researchers were analysing 150 crop circles from around the world, which they believe answer the questions. "Aliens are currently all around us, and are watching us all the time," Mr Filipov told Bulgarian media. "They are not hostile towards us, rather, they want to help us but we have not grown enough in order to establish direct contact with them." Mr Filipov said that even the seat of the Catholic church, the Vatican, had agreed that aliens existed. He said humans were not going to be able to establish contact with the extraterrestrials through radio waves but through the power of thought. "The human race was certainly going to have direct contact with the aliens in the next 10 to 15 years," he said

Plenty of other coverage, you can google that..

Now where it gets interesting is what happens shorty after the initial media coverage. I know this guy speaks annoyingly slow, but I have good faith you can bear through with some concentrated power of will..

The crack down..

Now, after this happened the guy wasn't heard from for some time. He did not vanish for too long, however and in fact he did not let the subject go! Although he was criticized by the Academy of Sciences for associating them with his research in the public arena and was ridiculed in several foreign publications he continues the work and appears on Bulgarian media from time to time. I can give you videos, but I'd have to make subtitles or something.. he actually says some pretty interesting things after he was cited by the Telegraph as third of the Top Ten believers in aliens in history - www.telegraph.co.uk...

I am posting this because my observation recently is that many people have started looking into the theory that many of the ET encounters could be "astral" experiences in one form and another and the work Filipov did was with mediums - particularly the contributions of Maryana Vezneva, a popular medium in my country.

I thought this disappeared because there really was little substance to the story.

The professor (who I think was a real professor?) was saying he was receiving messages from ET through crop circles. He was relying on one woman (a Bulgarian channeller/psychic) to interpret the crop circles. I'm sure you would agree that is not at all scientific. Why would ET want to communicate in a way where only one Bulgarian psychic can interpret the messages? That and the fact that the psychic was trying very hard to sell books made many people sceptical of Lachezar Filipov.

Also whenever anyone (including ATS members) emailed this prof. they got a standard, prepared reply email, which kind of implied it was all thought out previously.

What made this story seem legitimate to many is that the UK Telegraph and other 'proper' newspapers repeated the story. They implied Filipov's project was an official government one when it wasn't. Unfortunately even reliable publications like to use stories as filler and are not too bothered about the facts on those types of stories.

Then of course there are people who are saying this guy was the victim of dis-information and then threatened in order to keep quiet about his discoveries, if only we could track down the professor now and see what he's up to in 2011

Here's an interview with Filipov from a Bulgarian website, translated by google translate. In it he states the crop circle investigation was not an official one and that he himself remained sceptical of the psychic he was working with.

www.plovdivmedia.com...

- Tell me, what exactly was this experiment?
- First I want to emphasize that from the Space Research Institute, nor of BAS dealt with the examination of these crop circles

(ie, it was his own personal investigation)

To me I noticed that her ideas were turned into the flagship of several sects, which portends the apocalypse. This motivated me to join in this "game" to not fall completely under the control of this sect, as it is on the verge of religion

( this is about the psychic, Vezneva, he also says in the article she may have been interpreting things objectively)

- How can you guarantee that rely on this information correct?
- We are not advanced enough to say that we understand all the information. We need to expand the circle of people who will rely not only Vezneva. We have something that gives us such information, but whether it is reliable, it is not clear. I warned back then that should not startle people with information that in 2012 will come the apocalypse. There is no evidence to close Nibiru planet earth if it was big as our planet would have to be seen. It is important that information be interpreted unambiguously.

So he is definitely not a Nibiru believer!

After reading this interview it seems Filipov is a respected scientist with an interest in the UFO phenomena. He was investigating crop circles and decided to talk to the media about his opinions. He doesn't have any solid proof of ET visitation and never thought Vezneva was entirely correct in her interpretation of crop circles. It seems his bosses weren't too happy with what came out in the press, who seemed to be largely mis-interpreting the facts.

This tale just fell into my lap so as I watch these videos I hope others are interested as well.

Have been reading some great online stuff and this was something that actually linked back to ATS so I figured I would dust it off and enjoy the videos before commenting.
