21b) Cooperation: You will, if asked by TAN, cease to Post any content, and/or links to content, deemed offensive, objectionable, or in poor taste by TAN, in its sole discretion.

If the mods say no multiple accounts... It means no multiple accounts. The mods have said no multiple accounts, there fore, according to T&C, you must cooperate with the request.

You can't have another account. Because mods deem it objectionable, offensive and in poor taste. How about that?

Anyway, I really must be going. Have a good night.

Honestly, back to the OP, why would you need a separate account for chemtrail research? I have my profile, I've done my posting, and I have many different interests. All under one username. There's no reason to have more than one UN on ATS. Unless you are a troll, eh?

OP, let us know about your chemtrail research. Let us get to know you. Believe me, I've seen far worse in posting radical theories.....

....Everything will get judged by your peers. Let THAT be the reason for no multiple accounts.

I almost posted that exact quote earlier....BTW, there are other MOD responses, in various threads, that seem to condone multiple accounts as well (yeah, I used the search function to find them). Honestly, the T&C need to address this issue specifically in order to remove any ambiguity, what will not resolve the issue is the opinions of some random "rookie" moderators. Nonetheless, I will stick with the understood rule of one account; no exceptions.

That's the only reason I posted it. Because (IMO) it really should be addressed by SO or Springer at this point. I advised someone in another thread about this a while back based on this post. I certainly don't want to get anyone in trouble because they listened, and both myself and the MOD I quoted were wrong.

I knew I had seen some mod replies saying it was fine.... I couldn't remember where though, yeah the sock puppet thread was one of them. Good find.

I had forgotten about that post. I had seen it and that is how I was familiar with that specific T&C, thank you for bringing it in. Obviously this issue needs to defined and the mods need to follow the T&C what ever they decide, but decide and publish they must.

So have you sent a complaint in yet?

For everyone: The link to send in a complaint is under the TOOLS tab, and a tab under that to the left is COMPLAINT. I would suggest that you voice your opinions about the T&C there. Perhaps they will update the T&C to clarify that Multiple Accounts are NOT allowed, and prevent any further ambiguity. Eh?

We don't like multiple accounts. It's not OK because people with multiple accounts usually have ulterior motives, i.e. socks. There is no reason (or rather very few reasons) to have more than one account. So perhaps I should rephrase myself: Multiple accounts are NOT OK, unless you have a very good reason for having one.

16c.) Multiple Accounts: You will not create multiple user accounts and "talk to yourself."

That is the black and white rule that will result in action on your account. BUT we won't "smite you down" the moment we suspect a sock. It's something the staff handles on a case to case bases.
Certainly we can't write in the T&Cs:

16c.) Multiple Accounts: The staff will spend hours reasoning why you'd want more than one account, so create more than one and let's see what transpires.

In some instances we have partners/friends posting from the same computer. Obviously this is not "multiple accounts" but "multiple account holders on one computer".
In some instances a person would be post banned and he/she would create a new account to circumvent the post ban. They may not "talk to themselves" in threads, but it is a case of "multiple accounts" and therefore the second account will be terminated.

And I can go on and on like this for pages at end...

The point is: Every example of multiple accounts will have a reason behind it. If it's a valid reason, then we'll put up with it. If not, then the member has to choose one account and stick to it. The other accounts will be banned.

So, to answer the original question by Thermo Klein: Contact the staff with your question/request and reason for wanting a second account. Personally I don't see why you'd want two accounts, so I'd suggest a good motivation in your request. If the staff gives you the thumbs up you can create the second account and notify the staff of the second account's name.

As a fairly new and relatively unknown member here I personally do not like the idea of a single person having more than one account. (I am not affiliated with ATS, TAN or whatever in any way, just a regular user) No one is going to bash you on a thread about bees (Yay Druid42!) because of things you said about chemtrails on a different thread (I love bees and do believe in chemtrails btw). Just an example. We are all one, and you are one. Be one, be yourself and express your opinion as you see fit.

Multiple real persons coming from the same PC/ip are no problem as the mods have already stated but please do bear in mind, language patterns, interests and opinions will eventually betray you should you try to "talk to yourself". People do try it and they do get banned. Can't you just be yourself and use the one account for all your activities here? I mean this with no disrespect or malice.

Peace.

PS At the end of the day the Mods are here for a reason (quite an important one
)and they must be respected no matter how much you might disagree with that. Again, no dispresepect meant, just my 2 cents

Those imaginative souls who enjoy role playing will be disappointed to learn that they shouldn't be playing multiple roles on one forum. I do enjoy their performances. It surprises me that they aren't called on it. It's so obvious.

If you suspect any member has two accounts, please alert the staff privately so it may be looked into.

I could think of a few great legitimate reasons to have more than one account. For example, if I wanted to get into deep religious debates again, I would probably want a name/avatar just for that. People can be pretty petty and stalkerlike when it comes to certain topics is all. ATM I really don't care, and don't see a reason for me to have multi accounts, but unless you are using them to do trollish things, I don't see why it would be a problem. I would assume mods have better things to do than randomly going around comparing IP's to catch anyone using multiple accounts, unless you are doing things like ganging them up on people, or arguing with yourself lol. I am sure having different personas for different topics appeal to some people.

Using a socket puppet account to troll would be amateurish and the people who think this is the way "to agree with yourself" are under-estimating the power of marketing companies and think tanks. Obviously lots of funny things are happening in the ufo board, which dampened my enthousiasm for a while, but in all likelyhood, it is the same people who post crappy videos on youtube to discredit the topic, or any topic for that matter.

I agree 100% with the T&C because it makes perfect sense. I am simpley stating that for every rule, there is always a loophole for someone who has lots to gain.

I thought of possibly having two accounts for one reason.... I don't want to be known on here as a "chemie" simply because I'm researching the subject. The people in the chemtrails threads are annoying! There are the same people over and over again harrassing and bullying people who believe in chemtrails. I've been doing a fair amount of legitimate scientific, empirical data collection and analysis on the subject and it never gets to the second post without those same people saying "they're not real, get over it!!!!! why do you always look for the worst in everything!!???" etc.

I have expertise in certain (non chemtrails) areas and like to be known for that. I've been a member overall for about 5 years (I had an account before this one but while explaining what a certain drug does in a person's brain it was somehow perceived as support of said drug so I got banned....
) But anyway
, I don't want to be recognized as a chemtrail supporter simply because I'm asking questions. It's honestly no biggie.... it was just a thought to separate being treated in totally different ways in different forums.

It's obviously not a big deal and I won't be having a second account.
