Just been looking ant some OOPArt and legends and the line for Battlestar Galactica popped in to my head!

Quick Google search provided me with this interesting concept that has been around for what looks like thousands of years.I knew that lots of cultures believed everything was cyclical.but not to this extent

en.wikipedia.org...

Though i would just share this one

Steve

My dad and I used to have lots of conversations about this very subject when I was younger. Mainly as a way to explain dejavu. (Not your usual saturday afternoon conversation between a kid and his dad I'll agree but as a family we've always had a desire to think beyond the box.)

Eternal recurrence is an interesting theory, but there are so many versions of the idea. If I recall correctly, reincarnation had its birth from just such a theory. Or was it vice versa?

Either way, there does seem to be some substance to the basic idea. The universe seems to be cyclical, as well as our own solar system and weather patterns. Makes me curious if somehow this could be tied in with precession, and the zodiac.

Can't recall who posited the theory, but depending on where we're at in precession consciousness rises and falls during it. Hence, why some believe consciousness will rise as we enter the age of Aquarius.

Just some ponderings. S&F.

I think like most of us I didn't realise how much my paretns cnotributed to who I am until I had kids of my own. I try to encourage them to not just 'go with the flow' and to think outside of the proverbial box. If I do even half a good job as my parents have done I'l be a happy man.

This might sound weird, but we have lived through this before. I know it sounds ridiculous, but we are the ancient civilizations that we talked about...

It's so hard to explain in words. But it feels like we have been this technologically advanced before.

I have no evidence to support this, but I just wanted to add my two cents.

I have always loved entertaining this thought, not really as a answer to my bigger questions regarding life and where we go after. No rather as a way to overcome my lethargic days. I look at it as a way to get up and do something rather than waste the little time I have on this earth. Especially if I half to live it all over again. Though it is a fascinating subject.

I used to say "Everything has happened before, is happening, and will happen again." then I saw Battlestar Galactica and my head exploded.

The Matrix Trilogy is based entirely on this exact philosophy...I love the way it is portrayed in the movies...in fact, the Matrix Trilogy is one of the most significant philosophical pieces of art ever produced...IMO...

Yes, obviously. As the OP pointed out though, the themes presented in the show have a basis in our reality. Throughout history many cultures and people have entertained and professed such a concept.

Well how do you know that it's not mind-control? That what you are thinking is exactly what that information is made to make you think?

Never watched it in my life to be honest, I can't speak for the op , although in my case I'm referring more to an overall idea of the universe as a whole rather than just our planet.

see above.... for me it makes far more sense (if it ever can) on a universal scale rather than local scale, so no fossils as time itself would be replaced / rewritten each time. But this would hazard a question what would happen to the laws of physics, would they stay constant or change as the universe contracted and expanded? I've no idea as its only a theory and nothing more.

That would infer that every human and animal was simply a walking tape recorder and replaying events with little or no real choice over major events. Can't say I'd be a fan of that idea, I'd rather perfer to think that things 'can' be changed, but usualy aren't. People go with the flow as a general rule.

Absolutely the power of the human mind/soul is unknown but i believe that it is more powerful then any mind control! especially as mind control is only in the physical world and our minds/soul transcend this

I hope
