Libertarianism = Number 1 sign of a mass murderer

Libertarianism alone is the number one indication of a mass murderer. Pair it with prior military service and you're more threatening the Red Menace or Martian invaders.

David Vann's new book about the psychopath who committed mass murder on Northern Illinois University's "gun-free" campus in 2008 just hit the shelves last Thursday, and today, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) has published an interview with Mr. Vann, on their "Bullet Counter Points" blog.

Libertarianism favors the individual or small group above society and is therefore antithetical to most of what holds our society together. It’s very frightening. Most of our mass murderers have been libertarians. It’s the perfect political belief for them and fits well with Nietzche’s concept of the “superman,” someone above moral code. I don’t think Americans realize how frightening and dangerous libertarianism is. I would count it as the number one warning sign for a potential shooter, and it’s particularly dangerous when combined with former military service.

Absolutely ridiculous.

However, he is probably right, but not for reasons of being "Libertarian". The reasons Libertarians are more disposed to violence is simply because society deems it necessary to impede on individual freedoms, and most times the only possible outreach is to fight for that freedom.

Regardless, this has absolutely nothing to do with murder. Anyone with half a brain who is Libertarian would know that simply killing someone isn't going to give you freedom. Assassination attempts and political violence - maybe, but not outright murder. I see no correlating evidence and see this as nothing more than an insulting attempt at a stereotype.

Identifying as libertarian or even just recognizing that there's a gun to your head 24/7 telling you what to do and what not to do is a very frustrating thing.

Completely private and victimless solo endeavors are regulated or banned or carry broad social stigma that would only ever come out if government announced it in the first place.

It's like having a stupid parent lock you into a room and only be able to justify the action with "because I said so!"

Definitely can cause one to pull some hair out and even scream in maddening frustration. But murder or violence of any kind? Most everyone I know who carries the desire to just be "left alone" has come to that end because of a disgust at the violence all around them and believe violence should only be used in defense of self whether its personally or nationally.

This author is clearly trying to drag libertarians into this image to satisfy some personal bigoted view.

says a lot I believe. The author apparently believes morality is a creation of government and anyone not wishing to participate must be a barbaric heathen. As though should the moral compass of government be dropped or even reduced we would all run through the streets raping, murdering and pillaging because somehow interfering with, causing harm to, or otherwise involving ourselves with the life and liberty of another sentient being no longer seems wrong.Perhaps he believes government is god.

Im serious, Im reallllllly getting tired of all these wanna-be know it alls.

Libertarianism is not the foundation for a host of mass murderers.

A free society makes it possible for a psycopath and sociopath to go undercover... at least for a while, because of the inherent liberties and freedoms and respect for private property, privacy, and rights granted to all in that free society. However, it does not encourage such behavior.

So many people poo-poo the "individual' as if it is something bad. Frankly, it is the American way, so to speak. The individual has the right to live as he or she sees fit, and can aspire to greatness or mediocrity if they so choose, and they can believe or not believe what they will, without fear or threat of retribution.

Look at the icons of our American culture... the Cowboy...the loner, seeking his fortune or just drifting making a living from ranch to ranch and cattle drive to the next. Never one to bother someone else, keeps to his self, enjoys commradery and a good card game, has respect for people, places, nature, and animals...kinda like John Wayne or Clint Eastwood or Robert Duvall.

Look at the heroes... the individual conquering some challenge, or nature and the wilderness, or fighting for some ideal...Davy Crockett, Daniel Boone, Kit Carson.

Look at the inventors...Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Winchester, Whitney, Franklin, the individual seeking a better way and persuing it...heck look at Gates or Jobs...the individual striving.

It was and is the individual seeking to excell... and doing so in an enviroment that respects his or her rights and endeavors and ideals...viva Libertarianism.

The inability of the common man to be successful with critical thought once again proves how successful the dumbing down of American has become.

This book’s thesis concerns the society acting as a group, not as individuals in unity, and those individuals labeled as “Libertarians” are in direct opposition to group mind thought.

The anti-freedom thesis the author espouses is two fold.

This book’s main focus is not about gun control, this is just the sub-text.

The book’s focus is on changing this Nation from individuals joined in unity for the common good in to a Nation where the individual is subservient to society ; and, without gun control this “Soviet” style society will not come to fruition.

As a society of individuals joined in unity for the common good, Americans must be ever diligent in recognizing the wolf in sheep’s clothing that have infiltrated our Nation.

Anti-American authors like this one are trying to convince others that Freedom loving individuals are the enemies of the State, especially if that freedom loving individual is a veteran who has been train by the State in the use of arms to defend liberty.

Nothing could be farther from the truth.

The Truth is every time the Government dis-arms the citizenry Tyranny follows, without exception, 100% of the time.

We're not joined in unity for a common good. Libertarians are quite opposed to any sort of unification. "Leave me alone and I'll leave you alone."

Unifiying for a common good is a form of socialism.

But they do know. There's this magical thing called science that allows you to make predictions about things based on observation and deduction- even human behavior.

Like I tell my girlfriend, who is hispanic, everything in life is statistics. She gets mad and says I can't compare her to other people, or she can't be lumped in with other people, but she fits the statistics perfectly: she has 5 kids, from 3 men, no college, has no money, and believes in superstitions like ghosts.

It's easy to predict that certain groups of people are more likely to do or not do certain things. It's not true in every case, obviously, but the patterns hold true.

Wow. They better FEAR me then.

I am not a Christian. I guess in the 'you're dangerous' department I have that ONE thing going for me. Who would have ever thought that being 'nonChristian' in America could be considered a positive?

Forced/enforced unification for a common good is socialism.
However, forced unification is not unity, nor is forced charity charitable. This is key to understanding the long term failure of socialism/communism.

Human shame is apparent and now at our feet because Capitalism allows such freedom, and as with any social order dealing with "sheep," the remediation of our political systems must be viewed from the perspective of a shepherd who fosters the strength of their sheep so that they are raised up to also be shepherds.

To say again differently; Desiring a "king," "savior," or government of any kind to lead one massive flock will result in the neglect and abuse of the flock by the "hired shepherds." Only by local systems will the needs of a flock be met; That is, only when the people/sheep are cared for and know their leader/shepherd on the basis of familial growth/strength will we have the stability necessary to grow without falling back down. There is only one shepherd of all and that is life. Otherwise, because of our limitations as animals, we must organize in honestly maintainable populations in which civil communication and accountability are easily fostered.

Mankind is like a grapevine, not a towering sequoia.

The Empire is the tower that falls under it's own weight and always takes the form of a stranger who is far away falsely saving people from their fears and running a racket on them based upon lies and threats. In this pattern they destroy their own bodies, lands, neighbors, etc. But it is the meek who will inherit the earth without such decay.

Great. Another article that gets my Ire up. I just had to click the link and see what this was about. Now I have to think on this for a while. This guy must be a socialist. They care scared to death of liberty. It has unleashed the creativity of humankind. The more liberty humankind gets the further we will go. It will be libertarians that are the first colonist in space you can bet on it.
