gawker.com...

Although they had a hand in starting the Occupy Wall Street protest, the hacktivist collective Anonymous has been pretty quiet since it started. No longer: Anonymous claims they just hacked a ton of police sites and leaked usernames and passwords.

The biggest target of today's hack was the International Association of Chiefs of Police, whose website is still down as of this writing. It's auspicious timing, as the IACP is holding its annual meeting in Chicago.

Good stuff. maybe this will make the police think twice about punching innocent women or spraying mace in defenceless protesters faces.

Hope it makes some of them think twice anyhoo.

In solidarity with the Occupation Movement and the International Day of Action Against Police Brutality, allied #anonymous and #antisec vessels took aim at the corrupt bootboys of the 1%: the police. We hacked, defaced, and destroyed several law enforcement targets, leaking over 600MB of private information including internal documents, membership rosters, addresses, passwords, social security numbers, and other confidential data. According to the IACP's development documents, their systems cost several hundred thousand dollars. We are pleased to destroy it all for free, leaking their private info and defacing their websites in one swift blow.

The time has come for the uninitiated to become initiated. The Congressional strife, fueled by corruption, which has crippled this country has been traced to the banks who are pulling the strings on every conflict on this planet. The world can no longer tolerate the greed that has stunted the growth of humanity. Expect us.

Although I sympathize completely with the idea which is 'Anonymous', this action might just be enough to tie a criminal act to a peaceful protest.
The power of the anonimity of Anonynous is also its weakness: everyone can act on behalf and point to anyone to blame.

If I were a big Wall Street Company and wanted to get OWS out, I would use just these means to do so.

So you think an attack on the police on behalf of the protestors is going to cause the police to treat the protestors better?

If anything, it will increase their disdain for them and they will treat them harsher.

OWS should of stayed "peaceful"...in the real world and the cyber world.

Good job, Anon. How about releasing the names and info of officers caught on video using brute force against protesters next?

# the police.

You sit there and preach about "peace" when dealing with animals that spray women in the face with pepper spray for no reason, or try to ram people with their JP Morgan scooters.

I couldn't say it better. If the OWS movement wants any chance of success, they need the sympathy of the people, not the anger and disgust. Those same people that have 911 on their fridge and feel GOOD when a Police unit rolls up to answer a call they make. It profits no one to attack the police as if they really are some kind of enemy.

Are there bad cops? Of course...There are also some rather shady characters in the OWS movement as this continues to develop in all the various locations. Would it be fair to the OWS people to highlight those individuals and say they are a fair representation of the overall group? Nope......Not really. So how does that work when the exact same thing is being done with bad cops to make the whole department look rogue?

Heaven help us if the Police ever become what they're accused of being. The first sign of that time coming will be when nothing remotely close to an OWS movement is allowed to stand a single DAY. That is what it would REALLY look like if the authorities were anywhere near that bad, IMHO.

Why...what are you going to do with that information?

With your calls for violent revolution in other threads...I am almost scared to hear your response.

I would be greatly impressed if Anonymous hacked into MERS and erased all mortgage records.

You are a little late on that. I've seen plenty of police brutality in the videos to know that criminal acts have been occuring - no one has the guts to intervene though when a police officer breaks the law.

Anonymous' press release said they were attacking Baldwin County because of civil rights abuses in the 60s in Birmingham. Anonymous sure can hold a grudge!

So whenever you bring up anons past, anon supporters jump in saying "that was so long ago, that's not anon anymore" but they can do this and people celebrate
sort it out I have never seen sheep follow so blindly

We are believers and practitioners of direct action against all governments, militaries, banks, corporations, and police working towards our revolutionary goal: the immediate dissolution of capitalism and the state.

hmmmm..protest but dont protest too strongly, dont want to upset those that we are protesting against...
it is apparent that those in power in the u.s. are not listening and if they are they are not rocking the boat. whats the saying 'actions speak louder than words'

americans have a weird way of protesting..preaching non-violence while thier country runs around the world sprinkling u.s. military assests all over the place to kill 'the bad guys'. there needs to be the threat of violence and peace in a protest. americans have lost most of thier will to resist..gotta go to work, dont want to stand out and get in 'trouble'. in other countries it seems like they turn out in the multiple tens of thousands when they protest...there is a very real threat of violence and peace....here in 'merika, they turn out in the hundreds or a few thousands, stand around then go back to work....what kind of message is that sending? think about it.......pause for effect..........

'they' see this and know that 'they' can wait it out cause ameicans will get bored, will choose the status quo over change, are just protesting to be 'cool', ....the public WILL give up because nothing will happen and the public has to go back to work cause he is so in DEBT that he cant afford to take too much time off work, gotta pay back that house, or student loan, or car, or credit cards........................what an endless circle
