I'm so sorry to hear this and please let us know, if you're comfortable doing so, how he is doing. This is all some scary stuff and I hope things work out for him. Please let us know.

This is great information and I had absolutely no idea which test was performed. I will definitely look into this and call the doctor's office to check. Thanks for the great info!

I have my next night or two mapped out for me now and I'll let you know what I find. One thing that did initially stick out in my mind is how can sunlight simultaneously be so healthy and dangerous for us and yes, how did our ancestors come through this predicament?

Not at all and though I sometimes wish I was closer to menopause (for obvious reasons), I'm 41 and tests show that I haven't even entered peri-menopause yet.

I had read this also but it's not applicable to me (at least not yet).

Sorry for your anxiety as I know how much that sux. I never heard of a slow acting Vitamin D pill and will ask about that at my next appointment. I have to admit that I am enjoying the increased energy though.

Great technical info that I thrive on (I'm a cerebral thinker). My lack of Vitamin D is pretty obvious - I have Lupus and sunlight is sometimes a trigger for flares so as much as I miss it, I guess my tendency to shy away from it has become excessive this last year. I don't think there was any other option for me than a supplement since some of the maladies you mentioned run in my family. Thanks for the technical data.

Glad to hear you are seeing improvement!

I just got my latest labs back and after ~8 months of 5,000 IU'S a day, I have finally just barely breached the lower ideal limit. Crazy.

Nope, been on that vitamin D therapy. You might feel a little better but will notice little else.

Was on that therapy for several months because my levels wouldn't go up.

The sun is the source. But just because your getting it doesnt mean you are processing it. It could be an absorptionn issue.

Make sure they test your other hormone levels. Other hormones out of wack can change the thyroid gland.

I don't have a lot of trust in hormone doctors.

Oh yeah. My doctor called me at home following a blood test, to tell me to start taking Vitamin D3 immediately.
That was about six months ago. I've been taking 4000 iu's (about every other day), and am amazed at my hair and nails. Tons of hair. Long nails until I have to cut them they get in my way. lol.

If you're going to get vitamin d from the sun be aware that if you're far away from equator you're going to have to spend quite some time in the sun to get any real benefit at all. In the winter you'll get next to nothing. It is absorbed by the skin, but it takes time to slowly absorb. If you take a shower and use soap after sunning, you're going to wash most of it away. People with darker skin have to be exposed much more than fair-skinned people to get any benefit. If you're in the midwest like me, the best time to get sunlight is when the sun is overhead.. in the later afternoon the sun is too far away for you to get much benefit, if any at all. By the way, you don't need sunscreen at all! If you lay out without using it for only 5-10 mins (or however long for you to get a slight pinkish tint to your skin), that is enough.

Two years ago I was diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency. I go outside and walk almost every day and do gardening.

And for the last five years I've noted less and less sun year by year, more cloud cover.

Possibly it's simply a climate/weather cycle change and nothing more.

Or possibly something different, who knows?

We've lived in this area for almost 40 years. While it's not "the sun capital of the world" we use to have a lot more sunnier days.

I've also noted on days when the sun is out, it's hotter...............I use to spend 3 months out of the year on Pensacola Beach and now (in the midwest) my skin now actually gets red than tanned almost twice as fast living in the midwest than when I was a Pensacola Beach Bum.

So, I don't know what's going on.

StealthyKat,

I haven't been able to log on in a while. Several less desirable aspects of everyday life took precedence for a while, much to my chagrin, but I'm now back. Just wanted to check in and see how you're doing. Did you go for a second opinion? I'm speaking with my doctor tomorrow and will ask about whether or not she tested my thyroid function because I don't remember seeing that on my lab sheet.

I hope you're feeling better and thanks for the prayer. It must have helped because I got through the last two weeks - a bit drained but still kicking!

That's generally been my experience, nixie_nox. I felt a little bump in energy for a short time but then life intervened, lol.

I've never given too much thought to all of the chemtrail theories but it does make you wonder why so many people are being diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiencies unless our livestyles have changed so much that we don't get as much natural sunlight as we previously did. I can understand that when it comes to our youth because they definitely don't have as active an outdoor lifestyle as I did when I was young, but it seems like there are people of all ages experiencing this anomaly, hence the wonder...

Thanks for your insight!

Interesting that I've basically experienced just the opposite (tremendous loss of hair and brittle nails) but stress will do horrible things to one's physical health and that's been my reality of late. Not complaining as we all go through it and this too shall pass. In any event, glad you derived some positive benefit for equalizing your level and I hope it keeps up.

So, I don't know what's going on.

This has previously been noted by others as well, ofhumandecent, and it's a bit scary to ponder.

There was a time when sun was considered healthy (or should I say there was a lack of knowledge about the hidden dangers?) - then came all of the skin cancer and people lathered equally dangerous chemicals on their skin to combat the sun's harm - now they're saying that Vitamin D, most purely obtained from the sun, might be key to the cure for some other cancers and medical conditions.

Well, which is the better choice - go out in the sun and gain benefits for one type of cancer or go out in the sun, sheathed in a cacophany of other dangerous chemicals, to help prevent other types of cancer? I know that medical science and opinions change as our technologies progress, but it's all so confusing and doesn't account for the obvious change in the atmosphere or the physical manifestations of the sun's effect on our skin.

Perhaps the truth will be reveiled one day and perhaps it will always remain a mystery to the general public.
