By any chance do you have a home alarm? Ever since we had ours installed it interferes with our cordless phone. We hear strange high pitched tones occassionally, but more annoying is that every night at 9 p.m. our phone dials every 2 minutes. It sounds as if someone has picked up an extension and is trying to dial a number, waits for 2 minutes and tries again.
The alarm company said we need to buy new cordless phones because ours are not compatible with the alarm system.
Could you be having a similar problem?
As far as phone taps go, I remember hearing that there is a 800# you can dial (I have NO idea what this number is) and if it rings and rings it means your phone is tapped, if you get a busy signal it means it's not. Keep in mind I heard this rumor in the mid 80's so even if it was true back then does not mean that it still is true. Anyone else ever hear of that?
