Yep. The Framers of the Constitution for the United States of America carefully crafted a noticeably anti-democratic republic in (apparently) a vain attempt to protect the rights of the individual.

There is no greater minority than the individual.

This was the primary reason that democracy was eschewed in favor of a republic, to protect the individual from the mindlessness of a majority, or the mindfulness of well oiled few.

All we had to do, in order to secure our freedom for us and our posterity is know the law, apply it when necessary, stand up to tyranny in every form when confronted by it, and outside of defense, cause no harm. Instead, we embraced our ignorance, looked to "experts" to run OUR government, and declared that what made us free was the ability to elect our oppressors.

Yep. Democracy is coming, democracy is coming! Leonard Cohen chooses to be the court jester for the mad king, and I will mount my steed and choose to be the modern day Paul Revere:
