As the point of closest distance to earth has come and gone, has anyone any up to date info on those who prophesised the doom and gloom, or have they all gone to ground hoping this will go away and they can jump all over the NEXT speculative event?
As we were expecting an alien spaceship and god knows what else,
seeing there was a no-show,
What does this do to the credibility of those swoothsayers?

Oh no not another elenin thread dot com.

i think..many like me learned a lot from this elenin experience..

i am now more into comets, their orbits, the stuff that makes em, it was also cool waiting
for it to be visible on soho , also the alignment dates were intriguing, at least for me

so some people raised the alarm and nothing happened, do you want them to stop ringing
the alarm?

In the end come on, science showed to everybody there was no real danger from Elenin
and the Hype diminished way before the latest alignment date so there was really the need of your thread?

It seems some remnant of the intrepid little comet survived perihelion

Around 4 am Sunday morning, the comet passed within view of ground telescopes in an event that astronomers described as “largely uneventful. “I could see a hazy group of dim chunks of rock sitting in the sky, moving very slowly,” said Samir Nawar, a professor at the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) in Helwan.
I for one would like to wish it bon voyage on its journey back into the void, and thank it for the endless amusement it has provided us for the last year /salute.

The reason for my thread was to establish the credibility, credentials and reliability of certain people on the net.
I, as probably does most people here, have a list of whom I personally deem credible, and in an area (ET/Alien) that has little if any tangible proof, and is riddled with hoaxters, pranksters, disinfo agents and spoofers, if one is keeping an eye on what may be the emerging truth, knowing who to follow is important.
That is why I posted this thread,
to get others opinions.

In other, less well moderated conspiracy sites, Terral Croft, the hoaxer responsible for the hysteria, is being decried as a "CoIntelPro Agent." No doubt, he will use this accusation to his benefit, claiming to be a CIA whistleblower and creating a whole new money making scam.

Richard Hoagland is rather desperately trying to keep the story alive for a few more days. He's ordered his faithful disciples to be wary on Oct 20/21, "-- when Elenin will form a perfect RIGHT ANGLE with the sun and Earth."

Considering that everything Hoagland has said about Elenin has been wrong, only the really, really gullible will pay any attention, I presume.

more like more than a few people came on here, told everyone that: the end was near™ (again) and we should all repent and find inner peace. Some also advised they had travelled through time, just to tell us we're all doomed, and offer no assistance. My favourite was those who said Elenin was the bringer of enlightenment, and a passage to 'a new consciousness' and 'the fourth dimension' etc. Many advised this was the precursor to Planet X. Some also contested it was a giant alien ship, on a course for *insert doom here*. Many people compared notes on how much dried/canned food and water they had accumulated, and noted the state of their underground shelters. Some poor saps went into a state of panic.

That's more like what happened.

the alarm?

Quite frankly, yes. Or maybe just stop setting the alarm off by launching gigatonnes of wild BS.at it.

Well, it was an alien spaceship but we figured them out. Like anyone who would rather not be revealed to the world on a conspiracy website, they decided to just pass by this time in hopes that they can come back later and not be spotted.

Maybe this time if they cover their eyes, no one will see them coming.

I believe that has been revised as well. Last night I looked at YU55 and NASA had it at about 3.5 times the distance to the moon. This puts it at about 750-800,000 miles away from Earth. So at it's closest, it will be further from us than the moon is. I am sure the doom and gloom folks here will still make it into an extinction event anyway.

According to the JPL the orbital characteristics for 2005 YU55 haven't changed since 2010 and it will still make a close approach of .002 AU.

congratulations to all those who predicted nothing would happen. it was against the odd but you people miraculously came up with the right conclusion before it existed. you have accomplished greatness and songs will be written about you that will last throughout the ages.

To finish out this thread, and hopefully provide something useful for researchers in the future, I would like to ask people to post their top 5 people that they personally deem credible.
There is a thread already on ATS about Dr. Boylans good, bad & ugly of the UFO world..... here. However, some respected members here have cast doubt on contents of the original list....... here.

So let's have it, your top 5 personal list of those who you deem credible in the past.
Personally I only have 3, namely Wendelle Stevens, Gordon Cooper, & Edgar Mitchell. Others I find entertaining and somewhat charismatic like Bob Dean but the jury is still out on him in particular.

Alternatively, you can post your top 5 least reliable encountered during research.

I learned how much of their precious time people can waste debating nonsense.

It's good that some folks have learned more about astronomy. However, don't you think these so called experts writing on Elenin and giving lectures ought to have known what many of us already did? I hope you all steer clear of the idiots who tried to convince you all that Elenin was so significant.

I have included my OP that I posted about a month ago trying to warn you all!

Cant you guys see what is happening here? All this end of the world, apocalypse, Elenin tripe is clearly just a way of getting conspiracy theorists to waste their time.

While you're all arguing which of this rubbish is the closest/furthest from reality you could be investigating something of substance. If you believe there is an ultra-powerful cabal out to keep you all chained to oil, a screwy economy and and a corrupt banking system then do something about it and stop wasting your time with the nonsense. You could even go further than researching - you could think about how to change the future.

Come on. Let's not be Zombie Sheep. Wake up.

I totally agree..When i looked at it,YU55 really seemed to just miss the moon..No so close to the earth..At least that is what i saw...If the comet speed varies what so ever the moon could be in for a big surprise..Which makes me wonder if we the earth will be getting little comets due to the collision of YU55 hitting the moon...Not so cool..

A comet's velocity does change as it nears the sun. The site below has an excellent little educational animation which shows the phenomenon nicely.

How fast do objects move in the Solar System?
