An Italian equivalent of OWS, Occupy Rome, turned violent without provocation today, sending rioters throughout the streets burning, destroying and looting. I've supplied YouTubes and an article.

Is this the hidden agenda of these 'protestors'? Is this what we can expect in the US in the coming days?

Story

Italian police fired tear gas and water cannons Saturday in Rome as violent protesters turned a demonstration against corporate greed into a riot, smashing shop and bank windows, torching cars and hurling bottles.

The protest in the Italian capital, which left dozens injured, was part of the "Occupy Wall Street" demonstrations against capitalism and austerity measures that went global Saturday.

Tens of thousands nicknamed "the indignant" marched in major cities across Europe, as protests that began in New York linked up with long-running demonstrations against government cost-cutting and failed financial policies in Europe.

They've been protesting in NYC for a month. If it hasn't broken out into riots yet, I seriously doubt that it's going to.

But I'll tell you what I do know:

When these protests get big enough, the cops will be using tear gas, rubber bullets, and firehoses whether the protesters are violent or not.

I watched much of this real-time this morning. Much of what I saw was provoked by the police, not the protesters. I hope that we will not head down this road here in the US. We must stand peaceably, or "they" will use our violence against us, even if provoked by the police.

While violence may have been genuinely initiated by the demonstrators in Rome, it will for the most part, not happen that way here.

We've already seen the riot squads attack the innocent demonstrators, and there's been few civilian's who fight back, in fact, 99% of the 99% are peaceful. We know what the real agenda is, the government doesn't want people opposing their totalitarian machine.

The violence that will occur will happen when the U.S. police forces become brutally violent towards protestors on a grand scale, then, yes - the people will fight back.

And that is the day America dies.

Yet they are protesting wallstreet and big business instead of the government..........weird.........

This isnt about the government, this is about redistribution of wealth

What exactly constitutes as "violent protests"?

Is it when the police assault innocent civilians?
Is it when protestors destroy property?
Is it when protestors strike back with equal force at the police?

The first 2 of the 3 already happening at OWS, but the American people will never commit the 3rd action. American police costumes are enchanted with a magical protection spell. They can and do get away with any form of assaults they want, crying and screaming like drama queens only makes them hungrier for more.

I seriously hope not.

I may not agree with many of the collectivist ideology of their leadership, but I would hope that they don't TRULY feel that violence is the answer to their problems.

If violence is where they go(and I've seen the polls and comments by OWSers who support some kind of violence) then they can kiss their whole movement goodbye.

They're already on their own video rushing police lines after counting down. They're already on video advocating French Revolution style tactics. They're already on video talking about socialist revolutions.

it's enough to make you believe they want to be violent. But I HOPE they won't be.

I would have thought that it would have already turned violent....can't say I blame the police for arresting people that are blocking traffic..if I'm trying to get to work to put food on the table for my family get the hell out of the way and protest on the sidewalks...this is not going to last forever as much as people may think it will...and much like the BP oil rig..all will be forgotten before you know it...you wanna send these crowds running here in Boston..hit them with some cold water and see how comfortable they are for the evening..it's getting pretty cold here at night....yikes

Well, they almost forced a confrontation this morning when they refused to let the cleaning people in to clean up that park. Luckily the park owners decided to let them live in their own filth for a while longer. I can't see that happening forever, though.. sooner or later the law will have to prevail.

I think that eventually the protests in America will end in violence and bloodshed, and that is why I started this thread a couple of weeks ago.[url=http://www.abovetopsecret.com...]

TPTB will only let this go on for so long before they crack down on the protesters.

To answer your question - yes. But to qualify that yes, I would say that if they are having any level of success, the answer is yes.
We all seem to forget that the police do not spontaneously arrive at demonstrations. They are given marching orders. The moment they intervene or interfere with a demonstration, they are either following orders or breaking those orders. I would venture a guess that it is not the latter.
But to be fair, If the ENTIRE crowd turned unruley rather than just a few shills, they would back down. Instead a few troublemakers give the cops a cue to move in and the rest of the crowd turn into babbling sheep. Sure a few will stand indignant and defiant but the crowd in general back down, presumably in an effort to maintain their peaceful stance. If the same behaviour was present among the Police ranks, it wouldn't be an issue.
It's funny or ironic that Arabs could figure this out, but educated westerners cannot.

It's not the TPTB that will get fed up with this it's going to be the cities going bankrupt from all the overtime put in by city emergency personnel...
