The SCAR is being fielded with the 75th Ranger Regiment.

I too am a bigger fan of the ACR than the SCAR, but since the SCAR is going to be battle tested by none other than the Rangers then it would behoove me to pay attention and perhaps choose sides.

Yeah, I am surprised the Rangers went with it. When SOCOM decided they wouldn't be working with the SCAR in 5.56 I kind though that was the end of SCAR and the military. I look forward to seeing how the Rangers take to it.

Sure it's a no-brainer to guys like you and I.

But reality has to contend with bureaucracy.

This same logic can be applied to new technology since the 50s and the whole cold war era mentality that pervades the war mongering fascists that comprise our governments.

Well the range testing of the SCAR has been good. However war has a way of testing weapons that no range testing could possible accomplish.

I look forward to the results as well.

This isn't a political forum.

It's a weapons forum. Please read here:

I am glad the XM8 is scrapped. And I agree with the ACR being more favorable than the SCAR. The SCAR is alright for the fact of there are a few models with different cals.. But the ACR within the next few years will have soo many different calibers it will be ridiculous. Already they have it in 5.56, 6.8, and 7.62 nato and the soviet 7.62. All it takes is a quick barrel/upper receiver change out and you could fire any confiscated AK ammo. I am no soldier but the fully modular ACR in my opinion is the future of combat rifles. My father disagrees however and thinks it looks like a toy... He's just an old school M14 army guy I guess

lol The M14 is a badass weapon. No denying that.

However we have moved beyond it. Combat has become more complex.

The ACR, while itself may not be the choice of the US military, it's modularity and versatility is second to none and in my opinion that kind of flexibility is, indeed, the future of arms in the battlefield.

Looks like the Marines want the new HK M-27 IAR to replace the M249 SAW:

Isn't that an open bolt AR that's drum fed and like ten thousand pounds lighter?

From what I can understand it is an open bolt M-16 with a slightly heavier lower and can be fed with either a bottom fed box or belt fed from the side! Not sure though, I haven't seen any videos of it in use yet. It is MUCH lighter than the M249 SAW! Will be interested reading reviews from the SandBox on it!

I thought so.

I first heard about this weapon in 2009 when it aired on Future Weapons.

It just kinda seemed like a no brainer...

In a limited sense yes.

The system is an open bolt AR platform still firing a 5.56mm round.

The open bolt construction means heat dissipates better than it would in standard AR configurations. However it's cyclic rate of fire is slower than that of the SAW.(Not that it really matter much as both will create a wall of lead)
