I read this one article and now think I am an expert on a subject...Really? Information can come from other sources other than a poorly written, poorly sourced blog. Reading such things does not make you an expert! And what's even worse most times it seems the person posting that trash hasn't even read the whole thing. It seems like some people google something and find a title that seems to fit and throw that in and call that research.

An example:

Read this and weep!

www.quackwatch.com...

How in the world does this contribute to finding answers?

Then there are those who take it one step further and throw out an outrageous statement with nothing to back it up with...nothing.

Like:

Fluoride in the water system was created by Hitler. Welcome to America.

I am not disputing this (or backing it) but if you make claims like this tell me how and why you came to this conclusion. Anything...anything at all please.

Then there are people on ATS that have read multiple BOOKS, these are collections of pages on a particular subject bound together, and apply this knowledge to their posts. Some of them EVEN went to school on the very subject they may be posting on. Typically I have found that people that seem to be more informed on a subject are less likely to try to one up someone else or throw insults around. How refreshing!

The point in ATS is to inform and educate people on particular subjects not to belittle and try to humiliate because you read 1 article or in some cases none. Educating people is not achieved by stars and flag counts it is done by teaching them.

I am not the smartest guy here and have been guilty of the very thing I am decrying here but it seems to be getting worse by the thread. Maybe I am just expecting too much from some people...

Teachers need students.
Students are people who have come to learn.
You don't come to learn if you think you know it already.

Threads on OWS, Freemen, and the Middle East come to mind.

Rant on and be happy.

Students can be teachers, you should always continue to learn. And you are almost always your own best teacher.

I think I got it out of my system, thanks!
