What will a new Great Depression really mean?

The one I don't understand is why would the water be shut off? My grand parents lived through the last depression and their water wasn't shut off...that's where I disagree.

What do you guys say?

I'm sure in the Uk, if things got to the point where feeding people was becoming an issue, we'd have to have ration cards like they did back in WW2. Money wasn't used, black markets opened up.

Do you think something will work along those lines in the US? Could it be implemented?

It certainly was, as well, in the last depression in the USA.
I also see this being an opportunity for those who have prepared to rise above and to become the new entrepenuers. I mean if we start by bartering our food opening our own chili kitchens and what have you this could end up giving us an endless opportunity. My Hubby has been in constructtion all his life and is figuring out how to make and utilize solar panels, this may be his start to a real business without government interference.
But I tend to see the good in everything. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

I didn't know that. I guess if the government was to ration staple foods and gas, they'd have to take over the production and supply.

It's a good idea to have a back up plan but I suppose it depends on being able to get hold of the materials you need to keep that business going.

Money was still used here in WW2 but you couldn't buy food or petrol.

I think in some places that could be a possibility. If the treatment plant cannot get people in there to maintain the system then there could be no choice but to shut it down.

See I think most people would continue to work. Like the above poster said you could use money but couldn't buy gas or food, my grandfather worked on the rail line building it during the depression, he got lots less money, but he kept working and hell I'd take a job at the treatment plant if it meant keeping the tap on for my city!!! That's if people did up and leave the job. I don't know if there are any special qualifications you need for working at the water treatment facility?

One must remember that one of the main reasons for the "Great Depression " of the 1930's was the closing of banks. So they would have to be open before they can come and take ones home. The problem was for many people then, they have money, in the bank! Bank closed, money all gone! The crash of Wall street in 1929,( Wall street again ) lead to banks all over the country closing. Peoples saving, checking, what ever was lost. Companies closed, workers locked out with no where to turn. Something like whats happening today, sure we bailed out wall street, and the big banks, with billions of dollars. Then left the same A**holes in charge that made the mess in the first. " To big to fail" Sounds more like to big to have went to jail! I wonder just were some of those billions of $$ really went to

I would think you would get your answer from asking your question in a slightly different way.

Power is the key to all decissions. Without power you have no choice. Having nothing and hitting rock bottom does not usually empower people.

I would see the rich and powerful move to protect what they have at everyones elses cost rather than share what they have.

To protect themselves they need control of us. To keep us in our place. So I will pose another question. What makes you think we are not already there?

Each layer of control keeping the next in its place whilst those at the top order another glass of bubbly content that the prison they built is self sustaining.

No, but it pisses a lot of people off.
When a lot of people get pissed, there is your power.

There were a lot of pissed off people in the last great depression. Do not recall reading much about those without taking matters into their own hands then.

Although now and then, the end result is the same.

But the causes are different.
