As you know, for over three weeks, Zuccotti Park (the "Park") has been used by "Occupy Wall
Street" and other protesters as their home base. The Park is owned by a Brookfield affiliate and was
recently renovated at Brookfield's considerable expense as an amenity for the general public. It is
intended to be a relaxing tree-filled oasis in the midst of the hustle and bustle

This is the go ahead and permission and request the police need to clear Zuccotti Park of the protestors. It is just a matter of hours or a few days at best before the protestors are moved out of the park by force. This complaint signals the end of the occupation since the private property owners have filed a formal complaint with the police commissioner directly.

And ? Not surprised in the least - you'd probably find that the shareholders / owners of the park are part of the wall st. / bankers lot.. Everyone knows thieves stick together..

I have no problem with the OWS people gathering on public property. However, if they are on PRIVATE property, and the land owner doesn't want them there, they need to go. I wouldn't want squatters on my front lawn, and doubt many people would. They need to go to a public place and set up camp, and they'll have my support.

Why would they go to private property that they don't own to set up camp? That seems pretty damn stupid to me.

You know, I would like to say a few things on this remark. From everything I have seen in pictures (not from any of the mainstream media outlets) and have found from personal research. The protesters are, for the most part, a bunch of left leaning, liberal hippy college kids interspersed with members of big labor unions and people from the socialist groups and such, funded and supported by the new ACORN, George Soros funded organizations and Moveon.org ( Obama's little henchmen). So, a few things on that revelation,these people are being supported, organized and funded by the same people they are protesting, which in my mind, makes them idiots or at least hypocrites (not the random person attending granted, but the people that are working for the event). The recent threats of violence and racism from people attending the occupy protests around the country are escalating. Now, think about this for a second, what happens every time the lefty lefts encourage violence? It happens of course, and as soon as the victims of their violence fight back, they scream foul and say its not fair.
They h ave the right to speak their mind of course, and to assemble. I would not agree with any calls to forcefully end their protest. However, I would suggest that the people that support this movement do a little research first, find out who and what is actually behind it, if you support it still fine, more power to you.

Further more, the park is a privately owned property, if the owners of said property want the people off their property, well, then it is the job of the police to make sure that happens. It is after all private property. No one has any right to be on any ones property against their wishes.

At first blush it might seem like a bad idea to camp on private property but if they were on public land the police would have moved in on the word of the mayor and cleared them out long ago before the press even got wind of the protest. By camping on private property they were able to prolong the occupation longer since until a complaint is filed like this the police had no authority to move them out by force from private property. Now that authority is granted so the camp will likely be cleared very soon.

This park is filthy and the owners want it to be cleaned. Mayor Bloomberg is expected to issue the order to clear the park for cleaning. Or has already issued the "request" to disperse.

According to this article, the Mayor wants them out be Friday so the park can be cleaned.

This is where the rubber meets the road. The push to clear the park will in turn push these wanderers to do something STUPID in retaliation. The squatters have gotten way to comfortable on PRIVATE property. They have been there for almost a full month.

The request to clean the park is coming from the company that owns it, Brookfield Office Properties, on whose behalf the chief executive wrote a two-page letter to the NYPD asking for help "to clear the Park" and to "assist" on an "ongoing basis" to keep the area safe and clean.

In the Oct. 11 letter to NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, Brookfield's C.E.O., Richard B. Clark, said the four-week old "trespassing of the protesters" has created "a health and public safety issue that must be addressed immediately."

One safety issue, according to Clark, is that if the "underground lighting" has been "cracked, water could infiltrate the electrical system, putting occupants of the Park at risk of an electrical hazard."

Clark also said a woman complained to the company that she had been "verbally abused in front of her 5-year-old child" and "that she had a package stolen from her as she tried to cross the Park."

"In light of this," Clark wrote, "we are again requesting the assistance of the New York City Police Department to help clear the Park so that we can undertake work at the earliest possible time.

Public safety is now an issue and a major issue that cannot be ignored by the mayor or the police.

i understand this ows movment is funded by some of tptb but i dont think the ppl protesting necessary suport the higher ups.. i think its nice to see something.

What the TPTB do not understand or want to understand is that the people will not go away and I do not care what the laws are. I know that sounds bad, but when a law is created to prohibit something that people are allowed to do as it is, is just as illegal. In that regards, both sides are committing illegal activities and one is no better than the other.

Being private property, I support the owners decision to not allow the citizens to gather but for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The tptb need to understand that the citizens will just move somewhere else, the authorities goal is to run the citizens out of places to do what they are allowed to do, they are just creating obstacles. By doing so, there will be some reactions and some will be negative but the psychology of the situation is borderline volatile and when the tptb continue taking little snips away from the protesters the response will be equal to what the government dishes out. As I have said before, it will not be the citizens that start the violence, it will be the police. And when people feel that they have nothing to loose, they will most certainly fight back.

We must quit worrying about what kind of perception this creates and start looking at the human nature aspect and the psychology of the situation. If this is to be non-violent then tptb need to educate themselves on this instead of the iron fist approach.

Just get out the fire hoses, it'll clean up and clear out the park. Two birds with one stone and all that...

On a more serious note - if left unchecked how long are these protesters willing to stay there? With the cold weather coming up they are sure to have their resolve tested.

Also if OWS was more or less ignored by authorities I bet the media would soon lose interest (except for a lighthearted jab every now and then "...and guess who's still at it, those OWS folks! Now back to you Tom..."). Would the protesters then somehow "up their game" and changes tactics to get more attention?

As a side note, it's even more ironic and a bit comedic, like a Shakespeare play, that the letter of complaint says that the trash is attracting rodents( I think that means rats!).

Although the park is private property, it has been set aside for public use, according to the document.
As long as the public is using it the way either the local officials or the owners want it to be used. People may gather in the park, as long as they are not protesting.

Hypocritical to some extents if you ask me.

What do we expect from people that derive their income from corporations large and small? What is indicated in their behavior that would require a change in public opinion to correct? These are fair questions that are simply not being looked at.
