Some Thoughts on Ron Paul/Republican party.

Because Ron Paul was in the title? Yeah, I'll go with that answer.

I'm gonna start off by letting you know I am a Ron Paul supporter, I supported him in 08 and I am doing so again.

I believe that the republican party has fundamentally changed in the last couple years. Anyone that thinks otherwise, in my book you haven't been paying attention at all.

Now I'm not sure if Ron Paul will win the Republican nomination. I hope and pray that he will win. But if he does not win the nomination I hope he runs as an Independent. The reason for this is simple. I think that Ron Paul is the only one that can beat Obama as a Republican. If anyone else gets the nomination I am not convinced that they can beat PBO. If the Republican party dosn't nominate Dr. Paul, Obama gets another term, especially if Ron Paul runs independently.

Now I know Dr. Paul has stated before that he will not run Independently. But imagine for a moment if he did. With the changes that have happened in the Republican party in the last few years, droves of Republicans will vote for Paul, effectively holding the Republican Party hostage to our will. I'm willing to have another four years of Obama, (as much as it pains me to say so) to teach my party a lesson. To teach them that they need to listen to the will of the people. Perry, Cain, Romeny, all the rest of them are empty suits to me, and I am more then willing to sabatoge the Republican party and teach them a lesson. We as Ron Paul Supports need to draft Paul to run thrid party or independently if he does not win the Nomination.
I have been a republican from the day I turned 18. I am an Iraqi war Vet, and I voted for George W. Bush in my very first presidental election. I tell you this so you see where I am coming from I suppose. That and so you can see that I am not a recent addition to the Party.

So I suppose what this really comes down to, is if Republicans really want a Republican in office, you have to vote Ron Paul. Democrats who are unhappy with Obama and want him out of office, you must vote for Ron Paul.

Of course if he wins the nomination then we don't need to worry about any of this. However unless he is the nominee we have four more years of Obama.

I hope that came accross well. I frequently have trouble putting my thoughts into type.

No Idea how I got a flag. Someone must really like me, thats the only thing I can think of. I don't think I deserve a flag for it, but what can you do? *Shrugs*

If Paul DID run as an Independent, we'd get Obama for another four years. This happened when Nader ran as an Independent and siphoned liberal votes away from Gore, giving us Bush. Nader's votes in several crucial states were more than the margin of difference between Bush and Gore. It also happened when Ross Perot ran as an Independent, siphoning conservative votes away from George H.W. Bush, giving us Clinton. Once again, Perot's votes were greater than the margin of victory between the other two candidates.

If I were an Obama strategist, I would certainly encourage Paul to run as an Independent.

Meanwhile, Paul is FALLING in the polls, with an average of 7.7% and only one poll showing him in double digits. In the Gallup polls Gallup had Paul at 11% in August and now have him at 8%. Unless Paul can do something dramatic, his star is falling.

Well according to some in the MSM, polls don't really matter when ever Dr. Paul wins. Only when Someone else did. Bachman won Iowa and the media was all over her, where is she now? Paul came in second by less then 200 votes, yet it was all about Bachman. Ron Paul wins California, and there is barely a mention of him winning. Cain wins Florida and all of a sudden he is the man of the hour. Paul wins the Value Voters straw poll and it dosn't really matter, or they put in headlines that read "Paul AND Cain win Value Voters poll"

I'm not sure his star is falling. Like I said though, if the Republicans really want one of their own in office, Paul is the only chance we have.

Yes, you do see change in the Republican party. The changes I have witness I consider to be extremely strange.

Let’s consider the all too familiar Republican Elephant draped with the red white and blue. Notice if you will the orientation of the three stars. After 2000 the stars got turned upside down.

I still don't understand why you brought up the stars on the flag. Is inverting them this fundamental change you have noticed?

The interesting thing about Paul voters is their best predictor is their age. He always does best with people who are younger, but unfortunately, there aren't as many of them that vote. If I were running that campaign (and I worked for the national campaign in '08), I'd be investing heavily in social media to try to skew that vote, and in getting independents and Democrats to re-register.

The problem with Paul is, has been, and continues to be he's not a hawk. Since you're ex-military Red, I imagine you've probably had conversations with a number of your friends and found at least some of them can't accept this attitude. And even if they do, there are a hell of a lot of arm-chair warriors in the GOP that think wars are great, especially when they don't have to see the price.

But I agree with your premise that an independent run would be exciting. And frankly, when I look at whom both parties are "favoring", I don't see a huge difference, so I could care less if Obama beats Romney.

The Only thing the " Hawks " have given America since the end of WW II is DEATH and DEBT . Imperialists with no Intellectual Thought other than Might Makes Right . Protect America from Attack is a Nobel Cause , but to become Insurgents in Foreign Lands fighting Corporate Wars while Killing the Locals who get in the way is Morally and Ethnically WRONG ! I would think by Now most Citizens in this Country are getting Sick and Tired of giving up their Sons to become Cannon Fodder for the Politicians who have forgotten the Concept of Diplomacy .....
