FBI Search New Mexico Lake for 'Toy Box' Killer's 40 Victims

abcnews.go.com

Authorities are searching a New Mexico lake for victims of alleged serial killer David Parker Ray who once boasted of killing as many as 40 women.

The FBI, New Mexico State Police and the Albuquerque Police Department will search Elephant Butte Lake in Truth of Consequences, N.M., today for Ray’s victims.

David Parker Ray tortured and presumably killed his victims in a $100,000 homemade torture chamber he called his "toy box", a trailer which was equipped with what he referred to as his "friends": whips, chains, pulleys, straps, clamps, leg spreader bars, and surgical blades and saws...

I was living down in NM when his case first made the news... he had kidnapped a lady from Albuquerque and had kept her captive in this toy box for days... Luckly she wasnt killed

that lady somehow managed to escape and called the cops...
I had thought this case closed after this guy died but I guess his legacy lives on
well I guess this is the next chapter wounder what they'll find

Real life inspiration for a lot of sadistic horror/suspense movies.

People often fail to realize that there are real life monsters like this out there, and many are never caught.

But that could be changing soon...

this man is dead. they should find remains of any of his possible victims for their families, other than that, any note or memory of this man who chose to not be human should be buried deep enough only for higher education to study for psychological purposes. But instead he will be made infamous and maybe given a movie or a few books.

this is the only image I could find of what the inside of Parkers "Toy Box" looked like...
I do remember court scenes where they showed a lot of his "Toys"
Can you say "Psychopath"

The place is seriously called Truth of Consequences, NM? Crazy

I read a book several years ago called "Slow Death", that was loosely based on accounts and testimony about David Parker Ray's crimes. The book went into graphic detail about the crimes, literally "reenacting them" in vivid, pornographic detail (as much of his crimes were sexual in nature, obviously), and even had accounts of supposed accomplices that would meet together and torture these women sexually.

I never finished the book, because I was disgusted. Not only were the acts depraved and monstrous, but the book itself was needlessly detailed in every scene, and had me a little skeptical of this being a "True Crime" book, or a torture porn novel for sadists.

What an utterly warped bastard.
I am no advocate for "pre crime" but someone should have raised the alarm about this sicko when he was younger-I doubt he got to the point of the "tox box" without a disturbing history of sick behavior.

The place is seriously called Truth of Consequences

yeah it is and there's a story there too...

see a long time ago the towns name was "Hot Springs NM" but the TV show "Truth or Consequences" had this contest...
the city that wrote the best essay would win the the use of the name and get all this free press... well "Hot Springs" won.. they changed their name to Truth or Consequences and up until he died "Bob Barker" would host the annual parade they have there every year....

Back on topic murder bad... hay that's all I got...

While I appreciate the disgust that reading such things would instill in someone, I fail to see what has been achieved by your failing to finish your reading on this matter. When I was in senior school (11-16 years old) in my third year, we had an English assignment which was based on debate. We had to discuss the polarising issue of the death penalty, and wether or not we should see its return to our shores here in the UK.

To flesh out my understanding of crime, I had to read up on various cases of murder, including the unsolved Jack the Ripper murders, and more recent ,the murder of toddler James Bulger by two children aged ten and eleven , Robert Thompson, and Jon Venables. Although the details of both cases were disgusting, I saw it as my duty not to shy away from those details.

Many people think that by keeping the detail of a work of evil out of thier minds, they can reduce its power , its potency, and its capacity to disgust, to enrage. See no evil , hear no evil.... Its a bogus strategy. If one wishes to be capable of dealing with evil, with wrong doing, if one wishes to have a hope of defeating evil (which should be the aim of every good hearted person) one must be capable of looking it square in the eye metaphorically, and headbutt it in the face.

One cannot do that , if ones reaction to a remote explanation of its detail turns ones guts. Because I know that this planet has some sick and broken people on it, I refuse point blank to turn away, and not deal with the detail of thier sickness. Only by understanding the facts of a case, after all , can anyone hope to discern guilt, to organise a sentence, or indeed to understand a sentence from the point of veiw of an observer. Also, it is only by understanding the facts of a case, that ensures that soft sentences are identified and protested as firmly as possible.

This particular case has been very well noted by the world at large, and there have been various documentary television presentations which detailed some of the facts of the case. Those details of course had to be edited for television, and I felt that something was probably missing from the accounts of the case when I first saw one of the many true crime shows that showed it here.

Would you mind pointing me at an unfettered account of the case, should you have such access? I would appreciate the oppertunity to study this particular case in depth, as depravity of this nature and scope is , or at least has been considered to be , fairly rare, and worthy of investigation as it pertains to the sociological and psychological rammifications relating to the rest of the world, and the over all health of the human soul.

I have always wondered about this. His girl friend at the time was involved and admitted such in court. Though now that he is dead she says he forced her to stay and take part through threats. I sort of doubt her word on that and believe she took joy in the tortures as well.

The bad thing is though from what I have read they only have David's word to go on that there were that many victims. While I believe it is possible that he was involved in that many tortures and killings a part of me believes he quoted those numbers for attention.

The TV show Most Evil interviewed his girl friend and did a piece on David. I believe they even showed some of the photos from inside the "toy box". The device used to keep his victims strapped down was an old gynecologists' chair.

Holy crap-get an adults only warning on that YT vid.
That is one disturbing video, and kids should not watch it.

I do not like the idea of the death penalty especially when done by governments, but in cases such as in that video,I would save electric and do it with my bare hands.

Right,I am off to find a happy vid, maybe puppies or something to cheer myself up.
I shall post a link here if I find a good one.
Anyone who watched that YT vid needs a happy vid i think.

Ok here it is,a mere 23seconds of cool German shepherdness.

And another minute, just to help forget.

Big apology for the off topicness.
But I needed it.

Are you afraid of reality or something?

It's sick, but this type of homemade torture isn't exclusive to this one guy, in that one place, at that one time. In fact, it's more common than you think. The only thing is that activities so dark tend to be left in the dark.

For instance, on the outskirts of the village where I grew up there used to be some farm about 40+ years ago. Some of the overly-angsty youth from my village were apparently sent there to be "reformed"; some never made it back. Before the last building was torn down about a decade ago, I saw it for myself. In places like that, you can just feel the presence of bad energy.

Even in the city that I'm in now, there's an old TB sanitarium/farm that's supposedly been closed for decades. I know a lot of people who've explored it thoroughly and they know that some brutal stuff happened there, well within the range of torture. When I eventually go there, I'll even document everything for ATS just to show you guys what really lies beneath the surface of society.
