There was an article in the Sunday Times today, 29th August 2004, reporting that GPS ankle bracelets are to be put on convicted Paedophiles and
Wife-Beaters.
I have looked on the internet and I cannot find a link talking about this story, so if anyone else has any luck I'd appreciate it!
What I thought was really interesting though, was that right at the end they hastily mentioned that they would also be put onto people who had carried
out lesser crimes.
So how long will it be before everyone has one of these?
I already carry a GPS tracking device, my 3G phone has one built in "So I can access a fuller range of location based services" - yeah right..
Though I must admit it does work well. Luckily I don't have anything to hide but I am aware that my exact location is constantly being reported to a
computer somewhere.
I think one of the biggest problems we may face, as far fetched as it may seem now, is if we ever perfect Artificial Intelligence... and it decides we
are no good... This is a common storyline for many films, but it is not that far-fetched in my opinion.. Of course if we all have GPS locators/RFID
chips/etc embedded in our skin, it will make it very easy for the AI system to find us - should it decide we must be destroyed...
