Ok can someone please explain this to me? Why is it that jupiter,saturn,uranus, and neptune are considered planets when they are made up of mostly gas
and very little ifin any solid material? Is that not an oxy moron of sorts?
Well, you have to look at the definition of "planet." A planet is defined as one of the celestial bodies revolving around the sun and shining only
by reflected light. It does not matter what it is made of but the gas planets do have some solid material in the core.
Yeah, they're mass is too small for starting fusion.
Althought they still radiate more heat than what they get from sun's radiation it's just because heavier elements are still sinking to core and this
releases energy.
