the bodies will long since be rotted away in a year. After a year, you will be free to move wherever, pick up tons of useful stuff. A concealed dugout is where it's at. Being above ground will =dead, most likely. Come out only at night, only to dispose of wastes and get water. Beware leaving tracks, too. THE backup vehicle for truck or van travel is a motorcycle, dudes. A 450 cc off-on road model, with a full length fairing and smaller rear sprocket, for 40 mpg off road, 60 mpg on pavement.

Well you might make it. what about chlorine gas?

Any pulp and paper mills close by? Railroad tracks? Chemical plants?

Did you see what happened to the guy who was out there in a bunker recently? They found his pot plants so he shot one of them, then he was raiding local businesses at night and the cops couldn't catch him. So then finally they got dogs on his scent and then discovered where he was, but just sat in trees and as soon as he came down the trail, they sniped him.

You might leave your bunker to dump the waste and get sniped. I am not sure all the diseased bodies will no longer be an issue indoors after only one year. Catapult your waste. Store another years worth of rice and beans. What could that cost? 50 bucks? Get a ham radio, like the FT-817ND and a portable antenna, and a couple solar panels. At least then you might know what is going on.

I will show you a good place to go if you want to meet up a couple years later...

Did you ever TRY burying a 55 gall drum, at night, with no one the wiser? Scatter-hide the excavated dirt, etc? For one person, you are talking about 5 such drums, dude. Each one takes 2 nights of pure hell, actually. The dugout by itself takes a week, and it's only 3'x3'x9', per person that is. Almost nobody is going to be doing much of anything at night, and that is the only time I would be out and about, that first year. Since the RR's aint gonna be RUNNING when shtf, lots of those "risks" are not going to manifest themselves, eh?

I once had a moron tell me that drifting downriver at night, in an inflatable raft, would be unfeasible, because waves from the towboats and barges would swamp me! :-) Like anyone is going to be wasting that diesel fuel or exposing themselves to fire from the riverbanks by using such a noisy, obvious method of travel. :-)

How big is your shelter? Surely its not that small.

You would go stir crazy. In Canada people don't have many guns. You need a permit and all this stuff so only a few people who are into hunting have guns. Other than cops and military. I don't expect it to be like the US where everyone has a gun or gun rack or barrel of guns. I expect America to be like the movie Escape from LA, and Canada to be like a town hall meeting. Everyone pitching in and cooking food baking pies and helping the elderly to cope you know.

Want to hear my plan?

Ok, I am driving my bread truck at night, the streets are empty, except for a few cars, a few cabs, I see one go off the road, this is it, I see another one through a fence. Up ahead. The world has turned to zombies.

So I go to the amory before the zombies get hungry and I see if there is anyone in there. If there are people in there, I get someone's attention if he is not a zombie and I tell him the story. If there are only zombies in there, then I have to lead them out by the elbow at this point and secure the armory. Hence forth only people who have a rope, can throw a rope over the wall, lasso the top and climb up to gain entry from the roof. I will write that on some cardboard. The armory is now secure.

I will leave a walkie talky and head to the Brinks depot to secure a brinks truck. Go by my place, park outside my window, break the window, get my B.O.B.Then head back to the armory.

At the armory I will modify the truck interior by obtaining a camper or trailer of any kind and pulling stuff out and putting it in the truck. At this point no one is sick yet but its scary out there. Organizing survivors, we will go around and paint on the sides of buildings, go to the armory.

From the armory we will bus them to secure locations, shelters where they can be fed and housed.

We do not want lots of people in one place because then disease will spread so the armory is just a way station.

A headquarters.

Then I will get a few helpers and go round up as many boats as we can and tow them to a safe place near the armory. 2 blocks away tie them together and anchor a few of them. If smoke inhalation is a problem we will head for the boats until the fire burns out. Then we will come back.

If by now no more survivors are arriving, we will go around and play bag pipe music in trucks and try to get people to come out of their basements. Evacuate who we can.

Once disease sets in, the game changes. Now everyone is suited up and everything is isolated and quarantined.

If the situation is hopeless we will head to Bamfied for a few years in boats and live off the land until we can tow a container ship there from Seattle.

If the radiation is still too much to live then we will head to Australia n ships.
