Australia's Carbon Debate - The Downplayed Point

We keep here how there should been pros/cons, for/against arguments for the new carbon tax in Australia.

The is an argument about how Oz makes less than 2% of world carbon emmissions, but what about when you consider percent per head of population.

When you look at the emissions percentage per head of population, Australia is certainly punching well above their weight.

Australian - 22,726,397 - 0.33% of world population, ranked 51st in the world for population size.

Australia - 0.33% - 3/1000 of world population makes 1.32% of total emmissions
China - 19.23% nearly 1/5 of world population makes 23.33% of total emmissions

When you look at the maths

Australia has near 4 times more emmissions of China per head of population.

The carbon tax is a sham that does NOTHING to prevent large corporations from using fossil fuels. It is a another tax grab pure and simple. The fact that the general population must be taxed in order to "save" the planet should start ringing the bells in your head.

Climate change is real. It's been real since the dawn of earths creation. Man made global warming due to CO2 is 100% BS.

Does that include Australian Owned Products being made in China?

Don't get me wrong I don't want the tax either, just raising apoint about Oz less than 2% emmissions.

Its not about our emissions its about our economy. The Australian economy has become completely reliant on our resources sector. Our manufacturing and agriculture industries are virtually dead and everything is now about exporting coal etc to China. The idea being pushed by the media, the mining companies and the rest of the elitists with a vested interested in continuing to destroy our land for profit have convinced the people of Australia that the rest of the world is not acting. The truth is that they are and more importantly, the reduction in Carbon emmisions that China is talking about is in the realm of 40% by 2020. If they achieve even half of that Australia will be broke. Thats why its all systems go by these global mining companies as they are making hay while the sun shines and when they are finished they will pack up and move to their next venture wherever that may be. All that we will be left with is the empty holes in the ground.

Australia needs to lead the way in new technology for the new economy or we will have nothing. Over the past decade we we have lead the innovation but due to the lack of investment in these green technolgies they have been sold overseas.

In any case, I don't care if our emmisions are nothing compared to the likes of China and India. Whether you believe man made carbon emissions effect the climate or not should be irrelavant, the fact is that the air quality in our cities is getting worse. The pollution is clearly visible and you don't notice the taste until you head out to the country where there is fresh air. On bad days there are public warnings on radio and TV to asthmatics to avoid spending to much time outside. These are the same radio and TV stations that condemn the carbon tax. Is the pollution alone not reason enough to look for cleaner alternatives?
