Note: This is my first thread, so please be gentle
Its also quite lengthy, but worth it , (IMO).
In speaking with my family and friends, I have become overwhelmed at the lack of information on their part, (and mine), regarding the ACTUAL
DEFINITION of terrorism and what the term domestic terrorist specifically means. I have also been struggling with the real question of WHY? Why are
they, the so called "domestic terrorists”, targeting the US population? Cui bono- Who benefits?
As I admitted in one of my first few posts, I was actually becoming afraid to speak my mind. Terrified is a better word, and oh how apropos the word
“terrified” is! Not so much for myself, but for my kids, family, friends, community, state and country. As I kept hearing about this NEW! and
IMPROVED! boogie man, the dreaded domestic terrorist, I wondered, just what exactly is a domestic terrorist?
Who are these crazy, dangerous, murderous, people? So I went to the library, did some research, also visited some constitutional law sites, several
dictionaries, and several .gov sites: DHS, FBI, DOJ, etc. I also checked on some international sites as well.
So, what are some of these definitions? Here's a couple, just snippets from each source provided:
1
www.merriam-webster.com...: "Terrorism :the use of violent acts to frighten the people in an area as a way of trying to
achieve a political goal. Example: “They have been arrested for acts of terrorism”.
terrorism.about.com...: The Department of Defense Dictionary of Military Terms defines terrorism as:
"The calculated use of unlawful violence or threat of unlawful violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or
societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological".
westgatehouse.com... Official United States Government Definition of Terrorism:
"[An] act of terrorism, means any activity that (A) involves a violent act or an act dangerous to human life that is a violation of the criminal laws
of the United States or any State, or that would be a criminal violation if committed within the jurisdiction of the United States or of any State;
and (B) appears to be intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or
coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by assassination or kidnapping." (United States Code Congressional and Administrative News,
98th Congress, Second Session, 1984, Oct. 19, volume 2; par. 3077, 98 STAT. 2707 [West Publishing Co., 1984]) and more here

What is the definition of domestic terrorism?
1. http//terrorism.about.com/b/2006/11/21/who-isnt-a-terrorist.htm
short article making the point: Who ISN'T a Terrorist?
2.
www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org... "Terrorism by nature is difficult to define. Acts of terrorism conjure
emotional responses in the victims (those hurt by the violence and those affected by the fear) as well as in the practitioners. Even the U.S.
government cannot agree on one single definition. The old adage, “One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter” is still alive and well.
Listed below are several definitions of terrorism. For the purposes of the Terrorism Research Center, we have adopted the definition used by the
Federal Bureau of Investigation".
A. “Terrorism is the use or threatened use of force designed to bring about political change”.
B. -Or “Terrorism constitutes the illegitimate use of force to achieve a political objective when innocent people are targeted.
C. -Or: “Terrorism is the premeditated, deliberate, systematic murder, mayhem, and threatening of the innocent to create fear and intimidation in
order to gain a political or tactical advantage, usually to influence an audience”, (James M. Poland).
D. -Or this: “Terrorism is the unlawful use or threat of violence against persons or property to further political or social objectives. It is
usually intended to intimidate or coerce a government, individuals or groups [American Citizens], or to modify their behavior or politics”
(Vice-President's Task Force, 1986).
E. And finally: “Terrorism is the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the
civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives”,(FBI). More at:

**** Interesting Note/Quote: "Terrorism has often been an effective tactic for the weaker side in a conflict. As an asymmetric form of conflict, it
confers coercive power with many of the advantages of military force at a fraction of the cost. Due to the secretive nature and small size of
terrorist organizations, they often offer opponents no clear organization to defend against or to deter".
***See the confusion in the #Occupy Wall St Protests? ****
****Terrorism is a criminal act that influences an audience beyond the immediate victim. The strategy of
terrorists is to commit acts of violence that draws the attention of the local populace, the government, and the
world to their cause. The terrorists plan their attack to obtain the greatest publicity, choosing targets that
symbolize what they oppose.
**( So that's why they are targeting patriotic citizens who love the constitution and the Freedoms it
affords us!! GET IT NOW??? The effectiveness of the terrorist act lies not in the act itself, but in the public’s or
government’s reaction to the act.

nij.gov...: National Institute of Justice.
(7) Title 22 of the U.S. Code, Section 2656f(d) (U.S. Department of State, 2007) defines terrorism as “premeditated, politically motivated violence
perpetrated against noncombatant targets by sub-national groups or clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an audience.”

www.answers.com... "The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or
property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons". **Prime Example***
Remember way back in 2008 when certain representatives, (and I use the word “representative” facetiously), stated that they had been threatened
with martial law if they did not pass the bailout? Remember the representatives who stated that the same threat was applied if they did not pass the
second batch of gazillions of dollars for those corporations deemed to big to fail?
**Or How about the main stream media screaming 24/7, “If we don’t pass this particular bill, the government will run out of money, no medicare,
no social security, no services, blah blah blah?
