Is Armageddon near?

Given current events in Iraq, could this be seen as a precursor to the prophesized Battle of Armageddon?

Most of us have heard talk about the Battle of Armageddon, being the final world battle. The Valley of Megiddo, now known as the valley of Jezreel, is prophesized to serve as the gathering place; a place where the armies warring against Israel will assemble. The Valley of Jezreel is a flat plane of land 20 miles long by 14 miles wide, surrounded by mountains.

In the case of Megiddo in particular, there has been so much fighting that John, the author of the Book of Revelation, was convinced that Megiddo would also be the site of Armageddon, the apocalyptic battle between good and evil to be fought sometime in the future. That is, in fact, where we get our word Armageddon today.

Throughout history Megiddo and the Jezreel Valley have been Ground Zero for battles that determined the very course of civilization. It is no wonder that the author of Revelation believed Armageddon, the penultimate battle between good and evil, would also take place in this region!

The final battle will actually take place at Jerusalem and is called the "Battle of That Great Day of God Almighty". Rev 16: 14 - 16

Doesn't the term armageddon come from the name of one of the mountains in the Megiddo valley?

This is the information that I have: 'Har' is the Hebrew word for mount or mountain. But in Hebrew the 'h' is silent. Therefore 'Har Megiddo' is pronounced 'Ar Megiddo', arriving at the Greek rendering 'Armageddon'.

I doubt this will be Armaggedon, at least not directly. This "war" will lead to the division and failure of the UN and it will lead to hurt feelings and eventually another World War. This may be the start, but it will be another five years before any huge military battle.

No, Armageddon isn't near (either physically or in the sense of some deity romping out of the sky to gather in the faithful and so forth.)

I dunno ... All it'll take is one stupid nation to use a nuke against the US ..

Zechariah is more specific.There will be a great conflict between Jerusalem and other nations, which will be fought in the valley of Megiddo.
This area near Jerusalem is known fearfully as Armageddon.
''It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem....In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem,like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo'' (Zechariah 12: 9, 11 ).
The day of the Lord is to be just that- the moment when Jesus Christ achieves uncontested victory over those who have opposed Him.'''Behold, the day of the Lord is coming, and your spoil will be divided in your midst.For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem....Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations'''(Zechariah 14 : 1 -3 )

T battle of Armageddon will represent the final, futile attempt by Satan to deny Christ what belongs to Him.

'''Another horse, fiery red, went out,'' wrote Saint John.

Everything about this battle is extraordinary.
Beyond the human warriors,there will be the working of unseen powers-voices, thunders and lightning.
''And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.
Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying,''It is done''!And there were noices and thunderings and lightnings;and there was a great earthquake,such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occured since men were on earth''(Revelation 16: 16- 18 )
The earthquake signifies a change in the existing world as the Apostle has said:Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also the heaven-Heb.12: 2)''

Two passages from the Book of Revelation indicate that the Euphrates River will be dried up and a great army from the East will advance across it.
''Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the Kings from the east might be prepared'' (Revelation 16: 12 )

If China marches their army across the dried up Euphrates River, the pieces of this prophecy would be falling into place.

'Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, And it will be a ruinous heap...." (Isaiah 17:1-2 NKJ).

DO YOU BELIEVE:

1. This war will create a world coalition against Israel as Israel so strongly defeats the Palestinians, Iraq and Syria. The World is strongly against Israel as it is now with Israel seeking to destroy the PA and its terror network. All nations do not want Israel to strike back, but she does. The coalition will be built up and then Ezekiel 38 comes into play.

Israel by all means including a
surprise attack.
2. The Palestinians, Iranians, Syrians and Iraqi's believe that they can push the region into a large war against Israel. Thus these nations shall attack Israel at some point. Right now, Bin Laden has made it be known that there will be no peace until Israel is no more. Israel strongly defeats these armies brought against her and causes a World outcry just like Kosovo and Bosnia. Worse yet, Israel destroys Damascus and Iraq as prophecised in Isaiah 17 due to the use of chemical weapons against Israeli troops.
3. A World coalition is built-up against Israel.
4. Russia or even China, in an attempt to reassert global influence shall assist Arab nations in a coalition against Israel.
5. Jerusalem is the key issue that will start such a battle.
6. Israel will be victorious through the miraculous assistance of GOD.
7. Finally, a peace treaty will be signed setting up the Temple sacrifice, and ultimately the Anti-Christ.
8. The U.S., as an ally to Israel at some point is taken out of this equation either through economic turmoil, a two or three front war, or even through multiple terror attacks.

Revelation also says that Israel will become an international problem, which of course already is. The entire Book Of Revelation is great.

So, it makes you wonder if those people in charge arent making this war so they can make way for the Anti-Christ. I've always had a feeling that all of this was of course about something bigger, much bigger than any of us could ever comprehend. So of course all of these wars, and trials and tribulations were planned ahead of time, a long time ago.

And I respect their right to believe as they wish. But so many current events in the world seem to be forming the end time scenario, please consider the following items.

I read a book (sorry, can�t remember the author or title) where a former U.S. General quoted EVERY Arab nation leader�s statements calling for a Jihad against Israel. The Arabs are committed to destroying Israel and in turn, Israel has adopted the �Samson Mentality�, whereby if they believe they are going to be attacked � they will launch everything they have to take as many of their enemies with them as possible. The entire Middle East could conceivably blow up if Israel is attacked.

I remember a passage from Daniel, "To the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased" (Daniel 12:4).

Global communications have been around a long time now. The reality that the internet has truly made us a global community � we members of ATS are all over the globe, yet here we are together via the Internet communicating instantly. Global travel is also common now; we can fly around the world in a matter of hours.

Also things like smart chips embedded for identification purposes. After 9/11, I can see that becoming a reality. I read reports that scanners have been tested in airports that scan the hand or at forehead level. Could this be a precursor to the Mark of the Beast? Considering how difficult a job the Homeland Security Department has of keeping track of thousands of foreign people in the U.S., using smart chips would seem to solve the issue for them. I�ve got a load of information about smart chips being inserted into humans that would enable them to be tracked globally by satellites. (I�ll post that ASAP).

The cashless society scenario is becoming very realistic now. Debit cards used to eliminate cash reducing crime and supposedly making life simpler and safer, with an embedded chip to confirm the person�s identity.

There will be wars and rumors of wars. Do not let your heart be troubled, for this must come to pass.

Ten kings(arab) in the middle east met in 2000. They all had a meeting for peace in the middle east with Israel. Three nations didn't approve the two basket plan for palestinians and israeli's. These three dissenters of the ten are being uprooted now. Iraq, next is probably syria, then lybia. Be a watcher vs. a discounter. If I'm wrong, so I might be as I am not God.

Once this uprooting happens... there will be a false peace. A peace that seems to last almost 4 years. Three and a half from when the covenant is signed between them, by he who calls himself, "the peacemaker".

Half-way into the seven years(3 1/2) the peacemaker will break the covenant and havoc will be happening around the world. (probably here is world war 3 if at all) Next, just before seven years after the covenant was made, the "peacemaker" will gather armies to conquer Israel or so he will think. This is where God intervenes.

Just for those who don't know even I don't know for sure as I am not God, the catching away, the rapture will happen before the covenant with this so-called peacemaker. The undesirable ones (as the world elite call) will be out of the picture and the Holy Spirit will not be holding back the powers of darkness as soon as this rapture takes place. Our only sign that the rapture is about to take place is the dead in Christ will rise first. Think about it... all the feasts of the Jews have some significance that have or will happen regarding as shadows to come by Paul. I have been recieving emails from chn-net.com for awhile and it might be able to better describe how the feasts correlate to events. First fruits is what this guy believes to be a watch date for the dead to rise in Jerusalem. Also, the palestinian state has a set date for 2005.

When people all around the world are rejoicing because the wars and rumor of wars part will seem to be done with. You will hear peace and safety! I bet from the terrorist thing we have to go through today, plus if you can imagine, all the people that have disappeared in the blink of an eye(rapture), authority will require some mark that cannot be removed from your body, so that you are accounted for and shall be in the future, called the mark of the beast. This is IMO when satan owns you. If we watch and do see the three uprooted, the dead rise, people really disappearing all at once, peace and safety speech, mark, peacemaker breaking the covenant, WW3, armaggedon, and who knows what else. From my Bible perspective, after recieving the mark, whatever it might be, the sacrifice Jesus made for everyone, must be passed to us... You must make the sacrifice now. You catch me?

I dont normally believe in psychics or prophets (the only one I have ANY belief in would be nostradamus, and that is conditional).

However, this morning the radio talkshow I was listening to had a psychic on. One of the things he said he foresaw was that sometime in the very near future, everyone on the east coast and throughout the midwest would wake one morning to read the news that much of California and the west coast had been destroyed in a nuclear sneak attack by North Korea.

Thanks for cheering me up, Dragonrider! (Since I live on the west coast). Did you see my post about "The FBI Guy"? He came into my Political Science class last semester and told us some scary stuff. One of them was that 5 Middle Eastern men were planning on taking a little vacation to the San Onofre Nuclear Plant(Located between LA and San Diego) via flight from Texas. The FBI guy said that if they hadn't been caught, they estimated 7 million people would have died! So your post has brought back memories. I just hope that if they do bomb the west coast it will be on San Francisco-the other, other New Babylon

There is a story floating around, apparently true, that the INS/Border Patrol stopped a mid eastern man at the Texas/Mexico border in Del Rio Texas. (Reasons for singling him out were unclear).

In his pocket was an adress book. In it were three cellular phone numbers that connected to the personal cell phones of 3 of the 9/11 hijacker pilots. It also contained addresses of 4 nuclear facilities in the US, including PanTex in the Texas Panhandle (where nuclear warheads are dismantled), as well as phone numbers to the guard houses in each facility.
