and i'll say it again sex, drugs, and violence was a part of the american culture way before those thing infiltrated hiphop. to blame over-sexed teens on hiphop is denying the fact that it not only exist in a single strain of over-marketed hip-pop but also in rock and movies and television, magazines and just about everywhere you can find a marketing team willing to push that crap at our kids....

don't be silly.

LoL you can't compare the behind the curtains of secrecy that people of the past painfully took to conceal the blatant and disgusting nature of Rap, that goes on today.

Blaming rap for problems of society. When will people realize that music doesn't cause problems in society, but is a result of them? You ever figure that they sing about what goes on in their lives? People are so pathetic, they just jump on whatever bandwagon that doesn't like what they like, and come up with any excuse why it should be banned or destroyed. If you don't like the music, deal with it. I hate mainstream rap, but I'll defend people's right to listen to it or make it till I die.

I said it before, and I'll say it again. The Beatles sang about sex, and the Doors sang about drugs. How come your not attacking that? Guess What? These are part of Society, and have been around a helluva lot longer than rap. Just because your perspective of the world is so censored, doesn't mean it's right.

As for Nans, listen to some underground hip-hop. Like Saphronia suggested some Aesop Rock. Try Eyedea, Apathy, and some Slug too. If you are interested in expanding your horizons, listen to some TOOL, their lyrics and the way they play are extrordinary and deep. If you like techno, I recomend getting some breakbeat stuff. You have any questions on what songs to d/l or buy just u2u me.

That's dumb AF1. The Greeks KNEW Music altered society.

You think Music is a result of it?

So I guess marching music is just a result of people all of a suddenly becoming super patriotic? Wrong...it can be counter as well.

In Nazi Germany first comes the Drums and the Parades and the Salutes, and the Marching Music, then came the patriotism.

Learn your history...Music CAN alter society. And it has FREQUENTLY.

And this is what Rap is doing.

I think I would no first hand if Rap is altering society. I don't know how old you are, but I'm 18 and I would be right in the crowd that is being "effected." Trust me, it's not effecting society like you claim it to be. I know many people who all have broad tastes in music, and people who don't listen to rap act like people who do. Lots of people have sex, and many people do drugs. So how do you blame rap for altering society? Rap wasn't around 30 years ago when my parents and their friends were having sex. I haven't seen any reason why rap has changed society. If it has, it has been miniscule at most.
What I think your scared of is the fact that a minority that has been suppressed for so long is finally being heard, and you don't like it.

Music does effect society, but I believe music is a direct result of it. Look at the club scene. Exstacy was around before techno. Raves became the "cool" thing and many people started going to them, and then dj's started playing at them, and this is when techno was born. Now techno and the club scene is much more mainstream and not as underground as it used to be.

Well it's not affecting society where YOU live you mean.

You probably live in a big city, in a bigger state, devoid of culture, where you have so many different ethnic groups, you couldn't count them on your fingers, and every one of them has their own gang.

Of course rap doesn't affect you guys, you EMBODY that crap.

But here in Nevada, even LV isn't like other big cities, maybe "inner LV" is or whatever, the slums, but it's got an agrarian culture about it too.

Up here you can see the crap rap is, because we don't live that crap.

Your lives, AF1 are very worthless, sorry to break it to you, but there's more to life than "drugs, sex, and money" and whether or not Rap makes you live that crap life in your part of the world, it's making the minorities here follow that path.

And we native Nevadans don't like that crap.

ZULU NATION !
Afrika Bambatta, The last poets...
Okay, I'm a old school fly-girl nostalgic about the 1986 Peace and Unity.
I listen sometimes Aes-Rock, Company Flow, El-P...
Not bad, but In Europe, Aesope Rock, SAge Francis... are classed as Electro-HipHop...
Does someone also know the rapcore ? Groups like Bodycount, Lodestar/Senser...

That was the stupidest F*cking thing I've ever heard!!!

I don't even listen to Rap. You begin to pretend to know who I am. You have no f*cking clue who I am, so don't even pretend to. You wanna know where I grew up? All over the place. I've lived in California, Florida, Michigan and Virginia. In fact, the last 5 years of my life I have been living in Chesapeake, VA. It's no where near being a major city. In fact it's in the middle of hickville, yet I guess your right, rap "invaded" the culture and took over!!! Yep, no one was doing drugs or having sex before they played Nelly on the radio.

I am the exact opposite of what you think I am. You probably think I'm black. Wrong, I'm white. I grew up listening to heavy metal, punk, alternative rock, emo, easy listening, and classic rock. I was anti-mtv and still am. I never liked rap, but I respect it and the people who listen to it. Tell me about your culture though. It sounds really interesting, since it is devoid of things that go on in the outside world. No wonder your so ignorant, you assume way too much. My life is very worthless eh? You don't know jack sh1t about me. I don't live that "crap" as you put it, but since I'm not a biggot like you I guess I can't see what is so wrong with it. I don't live the life of sex and drugs. I do have friends though, and I can see through their lives different parts of our culture.

You wonder why we have problems in our society, it's because people like you don't accept others for what they are. You are of an older and dieing generation that is scared of change. Unfortunately for you change is coming, and what you don't realize it is a good thing.

thanks for picking apart my wording 5POF, is "very difficult" better for you a$$hole? As 50 cent said in many different interviews, I am going to rap about what i live and see, if I was a 40 year old white man with a normal job i would rap about that but thats not what I know. As AF1 said the world the rappers live in is what you see in their lyrics. Their rap music isnt making people go buy and sell drugs and have sex, thats absolutely absurd. Guess what pal when you were growing up you had music talking about the same damn things and were you adversly affected by it? Instead of trying to make personal attacks on people why dont you keep it civil; with your posts you really proved how we are terrible people because of the music we listen to and how you are so much better than us. ha

5POF, if I see another post from you that blatently insults a person or group of people for absolutely no reason other than your warped perception of reality, I will delete it. This topic is here for people to discuss and share their opinions of Rap in an intelligent and mature manner, if you can't make a legitimate post than I suggest that you don't post at all.

and on a conspiracy board, no less...??? Truly amazing...

Personally, most of the new rap I've heard is nothing but gangsta wanna-be's talking about poppin' caps, and clockin' hoes, and how great they are, etc. and should be renamed c-rap, or just plain crap.

However, I still laugh my head off at though, I guess to me it's just funny (especially old Easy E stuff). But the best is 2 LIve Crew...man, that's some funny $hit, hehe....

AF1, realize that it is a two-way street. Also realize tha tthe larger of the two vehicles get the right of way. Does my lone voice in the wilderness carry more weight than the voice that has a great beat accompanying it and gets played accross the nation? No. Is the gangta-rap typical of Americana? No. Could it be the "cool" music has effected many more people than the other way around? Probably.

Do I have rap stored on my computer? Yes. But its very mild and fun.

Music has an effect on people and is more of driving force than you care to admit, and its not just rap. I'd probably have more braincells today had it not been for the drinking songs of Hank Jr., Merle Haggard et al.

Rap ain't dead, it'll never be dead. No more than rock&roll.
