No doubt this is not real gamers nor real online..I would bet you moms ham sandwich this is xbox live or some such console nonsense.

As a man in my late 30s, I don't have this issue..not that trolling doesn't exist, I am just total pro, so am the one standing over the fallen enemy smirking as they shout into their microphone..

Oh, also if I am in a game and someone annoys me...call vote kick, and if they don't go, I do...its pretty simple, theres a bazillion games going, no need to stay frustrated in any particular game...you will never see that person again anyhow.

So...this story is about a out of work father teaching some net troll a lesson....how did he get the address and such? meh, who knows, who cares..people need to step outside and do something different if they are overly emotional over video games.

The kid probably deserved it. Its the problem that these trash talking kids think they can hide behind a screen and be as racist or offensive as they want.

My younger brother even does it at home, constantly swearing c***, f***, s***, n*****..... pretty much any word there is. This is down the microphone to his friends and other people he doesn't even know.

I hear him shouting "you got no friends" and pathetic things like "get a life", or "i bet you got bullied in school"
, its not right and isn't needed. So i can imagine, if this 40~ bloke hunted down this kid to simply teach him a lesson of respect, then i know why he did it.

I can understand how this 40~ bloke was feeling. Because it happens all the time, kids today seem to be mouthing off like there is no tomorrow.

And yes, my younger brother does indeed play cod too (the game that seems to make him become insane).

Personally i don't blame it on the games (whether its a bloody shooter with lots of death, or even lego star wars). It usually starts with some kind of trolling.

Blame it on the trolls, not the games

Its a shame, when i was growing up, there was no "online mode" for console games (playstation 1, sega mega drive etc). I used to enjoy the games, even when finding an impossible level, i didn't verbally abuse someone down the telephone .

I dont think hunting down a person is an easy task. This man clearly went well out of his own way for revenge - Over a game. A game for gods sake. By playing the game with other players you automatically open yourself up to the possibility of abuse, if you cant handle it, maybe you should leave the game?? Its not like Microsoft is gonna start listening to conversations and then start banning users who use foul language. People should make responsible choices for themselves and not expect the makers of the game to protect their feelings.

Maybe this kid did talk alot of trash down the mic, but he's 13, not 40 years old. Theres a huge difference in maturity.

I'm a gamer. I would agree with you somewhat...yes you shouldnt run your mouth to people if you dont want trouble, but this is a kid of course a kid is going to run his mouth over the internet because its the internet you wouldnt catch a 13 yr old mouth off to a man in real life without running for his life. Now on the 46 year old he seriously needs to get a life and stop playing call of duty if he has anger/mental issues where he doesnt realise ITS JUST A DAMN GAME!

Call of duty Black OPs is rated 18+ why would the mother allow a 13 year old to play a mature rated game?

Every parent allows it because they dont care, thats whats wrong with society the parents dont care anymore.

Anyone that comments in this thread that any 13 year old "CHILD" deserved to be hunted by some psychopathic idiot and taught a "lesson" needs to be put away in an insane asylum for a very long time and psycho analyzed as you must be just as psychotic as this man was. You must be out of your mind for suggesting and/or agreeing that ANY human deserves to be hunted down and harmed because they were "trash talking" over a fictitious game on the internet!!! Don't give me this crap about how he wasn't supposed to be playing anyway...it doesn't matter. Adults should not go around beating others over losing in some fantasy world, let alone a CHILD.

IT'S A GAME...SNAP OUT OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you can't take the heat then get your @$$ out the kitchen. Too bad the courts won't allow the kids father to beat the $h!T outta this man for beating his son...because if it were me and I'm a Mom, I'd kick his @$$ before calling the police...then gladly go to jail for it afterwards

Bunch of freakin' cry babies! Get over yourselves and find something else to do!

ETA
No, my 13 year old doesn't play Black-Ops either or any of those types of games. My son and his friends are too busy building rockets in real life.

Man Attacked 13-Year-Old Who Killed Him in Call of Duty

A 46-year-old British man tracked down and attacked a 13-year-old schoolboy who killed him in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The story, posted on wownews reports, Mark Bradford, 46, admitted he “just lost it” after a 13-year-old opponent killed his character in Call of Duty: Black Ops, and then proceeded to talk trash over the in-game chat.

According to a report given to the Plymouth Court, the unemployed father of three then tracked the teen down in Plymouth, Devon (UK) and attacked him, attempting to strangle him. The boy’s mother managed to pull Bradford off her son, and the man left without explanation.

www.egmnow.com...

Wow any gamers here on ATS? Who thinks the kid needed to learn a lesson?

What a great example to teach those punks to learn how to respect others. The internet is not some kind of filter that makes slander and insults any different to saying them in person.

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR #ING MIND? a 46-year-old man attacks a teenager for killing him in COD and smacktalking, and you think this is a good thing?

also: I don't have kids, but if I did and some loser showed up and put hands on him like that..the only words I can think of right now are "shallow grave".

I think you are wrong.. I think most parents care and love their children deeply, but don't have the energy or time to constantly follow through on disciplines ,and rules set.

Tying to fight society as a whole so that you can guide your children the proper way feels like a losing battle at times to parents.. now throw in the factors of long commutes to work and back, lineups at the stores, and getting back home to find your kid was playing COD at his friends house instead of doing his homework , and you barely have the energy to unpack all the groceries , get dinner on the table, as well as throwing in the laundry in between.. Well it just gets overwhelming, and seems like you're fighting an uphill battle.

Parents do care.. but sometimes there love is misguided as well, and they end up 'getting" things for kids, that really don't help that child in the long run.

I agree with you however, as a mother myself, there's no excuse available that would allow me to let my child who's at a very influential stage in his/her life to be entertained by a game that promotes killing. I know you didn't say that was okay, but it is our responsibility as parents even more so as mothers, to see to it that our children are properly entertained and educated regardless of what the rest of society says or does.

As our children get older, this will reflect in the way they live their lives and so on and so on, hopefully eradicating mindless psychopaths like the idiot who beat this child.

Ohmigosh. My daughter, who is about to turn 17, deals with these little trash-talkers every day while playing Halo Reach. Because she is a female, and at the highest rank, she is even more of a target.
She just laughs them off and calls them squeakers. Usually they give up after realizing they are not getting her upset and she is wayyyy over their intelligence and maturity levels. These little sh**s say the nastiest things I can imagine, well beyond what they should even understand at their age.
But as for snapping and attacking these little twerps, that is a whole 'nother level. The adult really needs to learn how to separate reality from gaming! Sure, it sounds like the kid needs to be put over a knee and giving a healthy whipping..but in reality, as an adult, the man needs to learn the appropriate response. Now he is going to be in total trouble with the law and the little brat has gotten the better of him TWICE.

I see what you're saying however. BUT, it's still words...this man took it upon himself to track this kid down and cause him harm...Not cool
Couldn't this grown up simply have complained to a Mod or something?

That kind of talk would make me very angry too, but it isn't right to go around hunting children/people down. This guy lost it and deserves to get a beat down in return. Yes, returning the physical violence he dealt out first would settle it for me.

Having read the article, the following can be stated:

Both the child, the parent and the adult are in the wrong in this case.
The Adult is wrong, cause he forgot it is just a game, and if he is unemployed, what was he doing sitting around all day long playing video games? One would figured, being married with children, the driving goal should be to go out and get a job, put food on the table, care for the children and when that is done, then maybe a few hours of a video game.

The Parent is wrong, cause this game is obviously way too mature for the child, and should have never given it to the child in the first place. A lot of problems start with the parents, not wanting to be parents, then the child does something stupid and ultimately, society blames everyone else but the parent, who did not use their authority to say no in many instances. Examples like this and say childhood obesity, are good indicators that parents are giving their children way too much and not enough of having them do without.

The child was wrong ultimately, cause he should never go through and trash talk anyone, cause you never know what the other person is going to do. After all there is always someone bigger, stronger, more able to do things than you are.

While I am not saying ban video games, rather use a bit of common sense while playing and if it gets that intense, step away from the game and do something else.

1.) What kind of kid would talk like that? One I would never want to meet online, offline, dead or alive.

2.) What kind of gamer adult would talk to a 12-13 year old that way?

Sounds like the kid's going to turn into the old man, and the old man used to be a 12-13 year old boy just like that. People get most ticked off at other people when those people act just like them.

It is the way the cookie crumbles.

13 year-olds talk trash the same as 46 year-olds do. Did either of them know how old the other was? The man apparently does not know the difference in real life and games. It is kind of like a few people on ATS who think movies are real life.

Sounds to me like they were both bullies, but the grown up bully beat up the little bully. Has anyone ever taught this man that trash talk happens everywhere? It happens on ATS but you don't see ATSers attacking anyone over what is said.

Maybe both of their mothers should have taken their game away from them. Attack a 13 year-old who killed a fake character in a fake game about a fake war?

WarminIndy is not real..it is a username. It is the same thing in Black Ops, usernames are fake characters.

Exactly, but since it is just a game, trash talk happens. Have you ever seen grown men play basketball and playing cards? Take it for what it is, just talk.

These games are trash, what you expect to come out of it?

Can't say I'd do much different.

Don't care how old you are, if you disrespect me enough, I'm going postal.

Someone needs to teach the youth a lesson. If not their own, then it becomes the duty of the community members.

In this PC world, that common sense has died out.

It's pathetic, really.

OHHH MAN so many times Iv wanted to do this very thing, sick of all those trash talking little bastards who think they can say whatever they want to anyone out there. SO many times has a little peice of crap #-tard who would never even make eye contact in real person said some crap that would of gotten his face smashed in in real life hidding behind gaming networks.

EXACTLY!, what are 13 year olds doing on an adult game? I hope all those crap talking ignorant little dooshbags get the message, "when you talk big, you better be able to back it up", cuz you never know if some real shooter is going to show up at your house..

There should be better more secure ways of reporting underage usage and abuse, get these little f**kers banned and their systems banned. Nobody wants to pay over $300 for a system, $70 for a game, $15 for a download only to have their gamming experiance ruined by some lttle bastard, who has no parental control, who spends his whole life playing the game talk crap to you and say the craziest things, this is not what I payed for, and I for one am soooo glad one of them got what they deserve finaly, "keep taunting the bull and eventualy youll get the horn", score one for all those who never talked crap and played well.

yes..the kid was nasty, and was going way over the line.. and kids like that often get whats coming to them from within their own peer group within real life situations.
..

I know of grown men who ignore their kids for hours playing these games.. and the only way a kid can get attention from daddy is to learn how to play..

*sighs*..I don't know what else to say..except its all very sad..
