Biologist records sequence that shows Palau fish using rock to crush a clam

A fish using tools to crack open a stubborn clam shell has been caught on video for the first time.

The clip, shot in 2009 off the Pacific island of Palau, shows an orange-dotted tuskfish (Choerodon anchoago) digging a clam out of the ocean floor and carrying the clam in its mouth to a rock. Next, the fish repeatedly tosses the clam against the rock to crush it.

The video was analyzed, and research based on the observations was published online Sept. 20 by the journal Coral Reefs.

Cool stuff hey?

So now that we have seen many different animals using tools throughout the world, I think we should come to the consensus that we have doubted the intelligence of animals too long and something needs to be done about it.

Animals prove continuously to have some sort of 'consciousness' and if they are forward thinking, who is to say how long in the future that 'forward' is? Just because animals do not think the same way we do doesn't mean they do not have as much right to be here as we do.

Any thoughts?
