humidity is low your right, thats why its strange for lighting and thunder storms, the night air is dry.

OP can you get out and take some pics or record a video and post it or something. Not that I don't believe you or anything but it would be great.

No...prolly.

Look at my link to the Dopler site in Tucson...they appear to be coming from there, repeatably!

You said there was a lot of military activity.

Could some of these be military photo recon flights.

Back when i was in the navy(1970s) they use the ship i was on for a target for recon flights and dropped what they called photo flash bombs.
www.harpoondatabases.com...

They were very bright .5 million candle power and lasted about 1/2 sec.

In the distance they look like a ball of lighting

imagine flashes of lightning with no bolt on a clear night sky

I am thinking this may be be some type of atmospheric reaction to the X-Class solar flare due to hit today, or something along those lines. maybe a smarter person can elaborate on the hypothesis

Went to bed not long after my last post. Woke up a little after 4am and looked out the window. Flash occured approximately 4:28am (MST). Sky very clear and could see many, many stars. The flash didn't seem to come from any one position.

I didn't watch too much longer after that

I'll get my camera battery charged up and ready for tonight in case we get more of the same.

Have a good day.
