Yeah, I guess you're right. It was more of a 'Throw that out there' fact. Thank you, as I was thinking the same.

Im in North Manchester ie in Bury. I too witnessed such an incident this evening. From my back garden i have an unspoilt view of most of Manchester and Lancashire. THEY WERE PLANES!! Seriously. I dont know why but it appears that Manchester airport changed its approach routine tonight for whatever reason. I was in my kitchen when i noticed approx 5 lights over the hills (Approx 6 mile away) heading towards my location. I went outside to look further and realised they were planes ie commercial aircraft. I am also a qualified PPL Pilot so i hope i know a plane when i see one. If this is what you saw tonight then i understand why you thought what you did. It was enough to make me go outside and into the garden as it definitely appeared to be an odd sight at first.

If its not what i also witnessed tonight then i have no idea

I'm in the North West UK (South Manchester to be precise).......just been outside for a smoke, very clear night, but no UFO's to be seen.

OP'er....are you sure they weren't Chinese lanterns?....we're getting to that time of year and I've seen them for sale in a few of the shops round here.

You'd never see a "formation" of spy planes anyhow. Kind of defeats the purpose, no?

I'm in eccles , so you have to appreciate the problems with light pollution . However , to all the Naysayers , try spotting something in a inner city sky and then try to capture it on any given media and in the time allowed . It is impossible to clearly capture anything .

S+F to the OP

OP Liverpool here, I was watching something on telly before and just happened to catch a light going past the window. Now I'll try and explain what it looked like, you know the old WW1 planes where they looked to have 4 wings? (Like this : : ) Imagine that but with lights on them, I was trying to work out why I seen them like this but couldn't get my head around how I could see 2 lights on top and two on the bottom of what I was looking at. As it got further from view I could have SWORE I seen one light move further from the other 3. This was around 9pm - 9:30pm.

They were moving up north, so toward Manchester.

I saw a classic disc shaped UFO while on a hiking holiday in the swiss Alps. It was seen by 3 of us as it hovered silently over a valley in broard daylight. We observed it for around 1 minute before it passed behind some crags and we never saw it again. That was around 12 years ago, and it still remains the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life, unfortunately none of us had cameras that day as we were only on a short stroll before breakfast. We decided not to report it at all for obvious reasons, but all 3 of us are convinced to this day that it was an extraterrestrial craft that we witnessed.

this sounds very interesting.. im sure im not the only one that would like to hear your story in more detail.

im noticing a flurry of sightings in the uk lately, and ive heard a few which have turned out to be some kind of lights that look like ufo's?
i wonder if something is going on?

No they weren't planes. They were too close together and weren't flashing, and they were silent.

The most likely explanation so far is geese. I didn't know they flew at night, and their "whiteness" could be mistaken for faint lights.

Sorry to get anyone's hopes up. My bad

Why no pics? Don't have a camera on your phone?
