I'm running the recaps for the current online game sponsored by ATS. I can't access the chat. I'd like help from the mods, as well as any tech savvy members.

As far as my specs go, (am geeky) I run XP and Mint 8 linux in dual boot. I have as browsers FF 6, IE, Chrome, Safari and Opera in XP, and FF 3, IE and Opera in Linux. I have checked everything pertinent as far as flash, java, popups, firewalls, and I don't run any AV software (viruses are a hobby of mine, I like to catch them for the zoo). I am 32-bit, 1.6 ghz, 1 gb ram, on a Thinkpad A30, and have all the latest updates for all my hardware. Everything, and I mean everything else, works fine, youtube, blah-blah, no other problems with anything anywhere, except this GD ATS chat thing. I've looked at the source given in the popup, can see the icon tables, and get the text box, but everything else remains grey. I refresh and wait. Wash, rinse, repeat. I watch network activity, and it fades away for that particular popup. It simply doesn't work.

If you look closely, I have tried 8 different combinations of browsers and os's for the past three days. I've read several threads about chat problems, and tried their solutions, but still no go. I am stumped for now on this puzzle, ate a piece of humble pie, and am now asking for help.

My default config is XP with FF 6.02. I'd like to get that working.

I use Pidgin to chat. I'll boot it up if ANYONE wants to help me, u2u for required info.

I really, really want to join the Enigma chat, but can't. I have been pulling hair for three days now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

how many ats posts do you have?

You need 200 posts to enter chat. Now if you have 200 posts and still can't get in I'd suggest using chrome as chat likes chrome best.

Hey its me over from the previous thread. I would love to get you into chat, you seem like an indispensable part of the game, being an integral leader in the main thread. I was hoping to give you some advice, but you scared me off saying you collect virus's for your 'zoo' hahahaha!!!

I have used pidgin before when I tried to dualboot my new $200 netbook and FXed up the BIOS (somehow... no clue) Thorn had a similar problem as you, I was addressing you both, Thorn got into chat... maybe you could converse with Thorn as to how he got in???

(on a sidenote, a small handful of us are considering Ventrillo or Mumble as either an 'ATS Mod Free' chat forum, or an alternative for members who cant get into normal ATS chat. No progress so far, let me know your personal feelings regarding chatting with other ATS members, I will try to act as a go-between as much as possible)

You are clearly very technologically inclined, is there anything I can do to facilitate your joining the ATS chat room? You are clearly an asset to the games progression, it is a shame we cant converse with you in ATS chat. Any suggestions?

::BTW I am going to mention this new thread in chat, to possibly post any results or suggestions.

Just for future reference, here is the post leading up to the creation of this thread.

You need 10 posts to get into chat. I am using google chrome and am able to access chat just fine. If you could, post your computer specs, such as what OS are you using? (Windows, Linux, Apple, etc.... Windows xp, vista, 7, etc) What browser? (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, etc). Do you have a 32 bit or 64 bit operating system? Are you running any anti-virus software, if so what brands (Avast, norton, spyblocker, etc)

I am available for other chat methods for quasi-tech support, aim, skype, (facebook If I HAVE to), whatever you use for social networking. etc... someone more technically minded should probably assume this role, haha

[sic] I meet the post reqs. As far as my specs go, (am geeky) I run XP and Mint 8 linux in dual boot. I have as browsers FF 6, IE, Chrome, Safari and Opera in XP, and FF 3, IE and Opera in Linux. Ok, I am done ranting. I use Pidgin to chat. I'll boot it up if ANYONE wants to help me, u2u for required info.

I really, really want to join the Enigma chat, but can't. I have been pulling hair for three days now. I'm gonna start a new thread in Board Business & Questions, so let's take this conversation over there and post accordingly. Thanks to everyone who has addressed my chat issues. I appreciate it, but let's get back to the real purpose of this thread......

ETA: Here's the LINK.

I am also willing to DL and set up pidgin. For anyone wondering, Pidgin is an open source, Linux driven, completely free IM software. Hopefully a pidgin quorum leads to your being able to log into ATS chat. PM me with your pidgin info, I will add it and wait.

If you like and im sure you already know this simply launch Internet Expl. and enter ats chat, its the simplest way until you find a way via ff or opera or any other browser.

Tried IE too. In both XP and Linux. Yes, there is a version of IE for LInux. Sickening, eh?

Heck, I even put my router into the DMZ to run through all the configs as well. NOW do you see why I"m asking for help?

I am going to downgrade to FF 5, and try that next. Many people are saying FF 5 runs fine to get into chat.

have you tryed loading the "chat voyeur" first? no matter what the browser is that seems to initialize different than the regular chat.

im on linux and i use FF 3 and 3.6. i load the voyeur client first (give it a minute, its not the fastest loading thing in the world.it sits @ grey screen for a moment)

then once you see the chat, leave the window open and click the regular chat link, it will load the chat in the same window.

this is what i do everyday.
