To all Ham Radio professionals: Are you picking up something on 170.20 mhz?

Due to the ongoing reports that are plaguing the internet forums and various websites about excessive activity amongst high ranking corporate entities, government officials and the military around the Denver, Virginia, Louisinan, Upstate NY, Louisiana, and West Coast area. Has anyone of you pick up any communication in refference to the recent activity?

I specifically point out 170.20mhz due to this Thread I have been speculating at this point wheather its fact or a wild goose chase. However, with mass confirmation from various primary sources and most dauntingly, personal source. I have come to the conclusion to "chase the goose" per se'. So, I humbly ask if anyone of you can post your findings as to what is going on around the areas I have mentioned or other areas that you might end up picking up. It will be much appriciated within this community of like minded individuals, mature and juvenile alike.

Also, I confess that I know nothing about Ham Radio and would like to get into it. I was also hoping If you can lead me to the direction as to what type of Radio I can get within an economical budget that can pick up 170.20mhz. Again, much appreciated.

Well, I'm a ham radio operator and I do have the 170.2Mhz programmed and I never hear anything on it.
You could always listen in yourself with any general purpose scanning radios from Uniden or a similar company. You can find them at radioshack or walmart usually.


You should check laws in your area before owning a scanner that can receive police frequencies, and any scanner that can pick up the band will work fine, and you won't need a license. the closest ham band is the 2 meters band which runs from 140-148Mhz and the only time you'll need a license is to transmit. Otherwise you're free to listen.

I don't keep it on, but I do listen at night. I have never heard anything on it.

I'm in upstate NY in Vernon right by the Turning Stone Casino. I would like to be informed about any possible military activity. I will read the entire thread and check for possible updates. Thanks in advance.

edit: have a scanner as well, will have to run through the freqs. i usually just keep it on the local emergency freq to see whats happening every time the whistle goes off.

thats a frequency for the fed to notify the public, during disaster or etc, so when it gets used then the news of the situation will probably be everywhere else to, also i can only speculate on its range, if its national then they can probably broadcast the same message over the whole nation simultaneously, or specific broadcast only in one county,

so just cause its silent for me where i am now, doesnt mean someone else in my state or another couldnt hear something,

and op if your thinking of denver then someone in denver will have to report if there is any local broadcast going on there if there is one, relating to the 'drill'

I must agree. I been monitoring 170.20Mhz myself on an occasional basis, and have not found any activity on that frequency. Been feeding it though my scope and it shows nothing out of the ordinary.

You're supposed to listen to the frequency, more the less you're supposed to hear it around 28th October, not now.
