I never knew this, or maybe I knew and forgot...

The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World; French: La Liberté éclairant le monde) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, designed by Frédéric Bartholdi and dedicated on October 28, 1886.

so thats celebrating 125 years this year, I think its interesting anyway

The statue, including the pedestal and base, is scheduled to close for up to a year beginning on October 29, 2011, so that a secondary staircase and other safety features can be installed; Liberty Island will remain open. Public access to the balcony surrounding the torch has been barred for safety reasons since 1916.

we will also have an interesting planetary alignment that day. its an alignment that happens every year (i think between sun and jupiter) and we always seem to have an uptick in earthquakes that day. never fails.

and due to the recent surge in seismic events over the past year or two, it is believed that we are extra vulnerable to this day, this year.
