When being taught at places like this. Or any martial arts place, you are taught that fighting is a last resort. To use your brain first and your fists last. It teaches you to be prepared should there be no other choice but to defend yourself, and let's be honest. This is a crappy world, sometimes people do end up having to defend themselves... Say, against a mugger. These classes, they encourage you to use your head, not your fists. But they also prepare you for the rare event in which, using your head does not cut it. So, no, I do not think it encourages more violence. Just as kids in these classes are taught, it encourages them to escape dangerous situations using their heads....and never to fight, unless there is absolutely no other way out.

To give the full qoute:- "Unlike adult contestants, they are not, in theory, allowed to punch, kick, knee or elbow each other during the competitions, but the rules are inevitably broken."
Who is being misleading now? did you have a dog in that race or perhaps your children follow the same path. Always someone trying to defend a practise that it is impossible to defend.
Before you state anything else, i would actually support martial arts for children as it has morals and codes of ethics that are not broken.
I am appalled by this, has our society really stooped this low? I know tv is bad but this is going too far. I would not want my 8 year old even near a wring where at the end of each round some bimbo walks around with her backside on plain view let alone the cage fighting aspect of this.
Perhaps i am being a prude(i dont think so) being a decent parent is my answer to that.edit on 22-9-2011 by brommas because: (no reason given)

The only problem I have with this is the venue..
It was in the local Labour club and was on the same billing as Adult fights (in fact, they were the only kids)..
Having a bunch of jeering adults who have all been drinking cheer this on is what disturbs me.
The actual sport itself or the "lack" of safety gear is not an issue for me. I used to do Karate when I was 7 and it was full-contact without any kind of safety gear. The only difference is that the Tournaments and fights we had were properly organised kids events, not billed in with Adults with a crowd that has been drinking in a working mans club.
