The Knight Templar : not only a drug cartel but also a cult

These are dangerous people.

The Knight Templar were created after La Familia Michoacana drug lord died.

La Familia Michoacana were not kind folks to start with..

La Familia cartel is sometimes described as quasi-religious since its leaders, Moreno González and Méndez Vargas, refer to their assassinations and beheadings as "divine justice"

But then the Knight Templar kicked it up a notch...

'The Knights Templar': Mexico's newest drug cartel

Pictures of the latest objects seized by the police in the Mexican state of Michoacan, revealed that the mysterious 'Knights Templar" drug cartel is more bizarre than most people imagine.

There were four hooded tunics, with a red cross, a metal helmet, and a pamphlet or Templar rule book. This drug cartel claims to draw inspiration from the medieval Christian warriors who fought to protect Jerusalem and the Holy Grail.

The rules in the modern day 'templar bible' call for observance of 'gentleman' like behaviour and respect for women – but also state that any disclosure of knights templar activities will result in the death of the person and his whole family, and confiscation by the cartel of the snitch’s property.

The cartel is like a secret society.

The Mexican Templars have an initiation ritual, which apparently includes dressing up like knights from the Middle Ages, and performing blood pacts.

The cartel recruits drug users and enrolls them in the organisation's rehabilitation centers; the process is closely monitored and has a strong religious component.

The double standard is striking: the Templars can not take drugs, and yet they run one of the biggest methamphetamines traffic corridors to the United States.

The young recruits are told to be 'gentlemen', the word for 'knight' in Spanish means a 'gentleman', but they have to kill those who they judge as thieves, rapists, or kidnappers, hanging them from bridges and attaching messages to their bodies.

Those organization have way more money, men and guns than the Al-CIAda extremists in the middle-east...

The cartels have killed 40 000+ people in the last 5 years. The Al-CIAda extremists are nowhere near that number.

The cartels own banks. The cartels own cops and politicians. They have militias. They have special forces. They have hit men. They even have alliances with several mafias and other cartels in other countries.

For now, those cartels have no ``political ambition``... but it's just a matter of time before they take over a part of Mexico and declare themselves ``protectors of the people``.

What if one cartel wants to bait the U.S. into invading Mexico, with the goal of inciting a nationalist reaction from Mexicans, that would end up stopping U.S.-Mexican cooperation against drug cartels??

A lot of things can happen in the future IF WE DO NOT LEGALIZE DRUGS RIGHT NOW.

Ah, yes. That's the name that escaped me in another thread. Who knows what they are really about?
I suggest they are up to no good. Just a guess.

In reading the description of the material and how this group is rumored to operate it sounds like some cartel or military officers decided to set up their own shop and watched Indiana Jones or read the fringe of the historical accounts for the real organization just a few dozen times too many. They have some real characters these days in the upper levels of organized crime. Nothing is what it used to be, it would seem. s/f for a fascinating story.
