Mark Thatcher, son of former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, has been arrested for allegedly being involved in a coup plot to overthrow the president of Equatorial Guinea

BBC: Alleged coup attempt in Equatorial Guinea

The 51-year-old father-of-two was arrested at his home in an exclusive suburb of Cape Town.

A spokesman for South Africa's National Prosecuting Authority said he had been arrested on suspicion of providing funding and logistical assistance.

An alleged plot to overthrow the president of Equatorial Guinea has sparked dozens of arrests across Africa.

South African arms dealer Nick du Toit is accused of helping to organise the coup.

Talk about having a bad day

First he got arrested in his po-jama for coup attempt...
Then he was robbed in jail too.
Somebody took his jacket, shoes and cellphone.
Apparently he was not wearing po-jama anymore when he was robbed...

I thought cellphones in jail was not allowed...?

LAWYERS representing Mark Thatcher are to lodge an appeal against a court ruling ordering the son of the former British prime minister to answer questions from Equatorial Guinea on an alleged coup plot, one of his lawyers said today.

The Cape High Court yesterday ruled that the son of Margaret Thatcher must answer questions put by Malabo prosecutors, upholding a decision by the South African justice minister.

So can someone please explain to me why Margret Thatcher's son was involved in attempting to overthrow the Equitorial Guinnie(SP?) Government? This makes no sense. Its like Chelsea Clinton trying to overthrow the Jamacian Government

This pretty much takes the cake for stupidity of political children,even though he's 51.

Mark Thatcher is innocent. He says he thought he was funding a medical aid helicopter.
