I thought the large bus-sized satellites were the ones that were nuclear powered.

Its a bit mission specific.
Generally speaking satellites that remain in the inner solar system (and that includes earth) are solar powered, but the ones that travel off into the outer solar system like Pioneer, Voyager, Cassini and so forther use a radioisotope thermoelectric generator because there's not enough sunlight out there to power solar cells.

If we are lucky it will take out Congress, The White House, and the FDA too.

I just checked on heavens-above, and unfortunatly for you, on the target dates of 22-24 September, the UARS satellite doesnt do any direct overhead passes on Washtington, DC. So while there's still a chance it could fall *near* Washington DC, it wont fall *on* it.

Other places...
Westminster (London) - Some moderately overhead passes on the 24th, and especially good if it survives until the 25th but otherwise not likely to be a direct hit.

Fukushima - UARS wont ever be more than 15 degrees above the horizon during the danger period. Its safe. Tokyo is ok also.

Israel - 23 Sep 19:45 local time. UARS will pass directly overhead. Or not.

New York City - 23 Sep 04:17 local time is a danger one for you.

Read the risk assessment..

NASA Risk Assessment

U.S. Reentry Predictions
• The official source of reentry predictions for uncontrolled space objects is USSTRATCOM’s Joint Space Operations Center (JSpOC).
• Normal procedure is for TIP (Tracking and Impact Prediction) messages to be prepared and released to the public (via the Space-Track.org website) at the following intervals: – T – 4 days, T – 3 days, T – 2 days, T – 1 day, T – 12 hours, T – 6 hours, and T – 2 hours
• TIP messages provide the best estimates of reentry time and location but have large uncertainties. Even at T – 2 hours, the uncertainty of reentry time is on average +/- 25 minutes for nearly circular orbits. This equates to +/- 12,000 km on the Earth.
• A final, post-reentry assessment message is normally issued within a few hours of reentry.

Anyone have a SpaceTrack account that can keep us informed at T-2hrs...

Sweepstakes! Place bets now.

Which country is going to 'get it'? Who's it gonna be? Where does the target fall?

I think Iran might be too obvious.

3:1 Odds on it striking Turkey!

Turkey is going against TPTB at the current moment, and they already had some explosions from it. An accidental satellite in some key area might send them the message to knock it off and leave Israel and the EU alone.

My second guess would be Egypt.

My way far out guess would be Orlando this weekend during the Republican Debate!

I can guarantee it won't fall in Texas. Nothing falls from the sky here anymore.
