Nasa satellite UARS nearing Earth "could land anywhere"

Done a search didnt see this posted but it seems like NASA has miscalculated details about the UARS re-entry to earth.

Seemingly its falling faster than they previously thought.

Nasa says the risk to life from the UARS - Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite - is just 1 in 3,200.

How does that work out with a population of 6 billion people?

Hurtling at 5m (8km) per second, it could land anywhere between 57 degrees north and 57 degrees south of the equator - most of the populated world.

Scientists have identified 26 separate pieces that could survive the fall through the earth's atmosphere, and debris could rain across an area 400-500km (250-310 miles) wide.

Nasa says it could only accurately predict the where it might land 2 hours before it enters the atmosphere...

Well I dunno about you guys but I live somewhere in "most of the populated world" might be cool to see it in the sky just hope it doesn't cause any trouble...

Only 8 days to find out anyway as its expected to come down on or around the 24th of September (this year)

There may be 6 billion people on earth But you don't get them at sea or the Antarctic, Therefore the low estimate.

Should be an interesting event, its Shocking NASA can make huge epic predictions like certain comets, But don't know about there own equipment.

If you or I had lobbed something into the sky from our back yards that put the public at risk we would be facing endless criminal charges. Why is it that NASA has no accountability? When they do it it's just another cool fireworks display...oh yea, that could kill some folk.

Of course, no one expected a vintage P51 to fall on their head, either. How long until a nuclear tipped ICBM accidentally cuts loose and hurtles itself somewhere until falling into someone's backyard? Ironically, we waste too much time worrying about asteroids falling on us when we carelessly have allowed our own crap to rain over us.

NASA, please get together with our Air Farce and intercept this bastard with whatever technology you can scrape together in less than a week. Don't insult Americans to expect you could ever manage to intercept a falling asteroid if you can't even destroy the junk you spent so much of our tax dollars to send into space in the first place. Hopefully, NASA can salvage whatever dignity it has left since the failure of its 2nd Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle and Space Shuttle retirement. Some serious butt-kicking is in order ASAP to prevent further needless tragedy or is success only now 'made in China'?

I usually use it tracking OTV2(USA 226)--better known as X-37 B-- or ISS.

hhhmmmmmmmmmm I remember something about a satellite that was used up and was a potential threat to fall back to earth in the good ol Bush Days. Seems like they " Shot it Down" if you will.
So......
A. Either Bush was lying (hard to imagine isnt it?) and they shot something else down instead or
B. Why dont they just shoot this damn thing down?
C. Perhaps its already too late, but then again how were they on time last time?
D. Cover up for Nibiru
E. Democrats fault or last but not least......
F. They already know its headed straight for the protesters on wallstreet

I find it hard to believe that they do not have a good idea of where it will land.. At least let us know which continent is in danger..

I also wonder what will happen is this hits in another country and causes Human casualties or important buildings get hit. Will the US be blamed? Could it start a conflict?

Is there another thread where this is being discussed? Because I would think a lot of people would be talking about this.

I did a search, found a diferent thread that contained a link to this thread, but that was all I could find here on ATS.
