I like this forum and it relates to the US so I hope I'm in the right place.

Why is it that in the US we teach everyone basic economics. It's required by Kentucky state and I'd imagine in the other states as well. Yet our country is doing worse than countries that don't require it?

I would imagine that is exactly why they are teaching it; our economy is failing in many ways and they don't want us to make the mistakes of the past. Although I must say, our economy is not completely flawed. It is easier to start a business here than most anywhere in the world, and it truly is the land of opportunity. I must also ask what countries you refer to. If they are communist countries, they most likely do not teach it because their economy is much simpler. Capitalism, especially the United State's brand, is a complex system that would confuse anyone new to it.

The conversation came up when me and my friend were on skype last night. We were talking with a kid from Canada who speaks French. The french part is unimportant but I think it's cool. Even though they all speak french.

I'd say its because economics and psychology for example, are relatively new fields of study. They are constantly evolving and changing as we learn more about them. Hence new editions of textbooks every year...We have to keep evolving our understanding.

Beat me to it. I was going to say almost the same thing. They teach "moochernomics" a study in how to guilt people who work to support those who won't. I would fail that class.

Or like you can't earn if there are no jobs

Or you can't get a job if nobody is hiring

It's because of the Dept. of Education
Forcing something requires Govt. to give it you, like free healthcare
And Govt. can do neither properly

in fact...
They may do the exact opposite
The Dept. of ignorance may not want you to be intelligent, or else you may revolt or see beyond the two party system

And govt. healthcare just sucks balls

Dude, is that you in your AV?
That's like a riddler costume gone horribly wrong

No it's an inside joke. I posted it in a thread making a joke and changed it to my picture. No offense to people who believe that stuff...but well I'm not crazy.

basic economics

makes you think you know some economics, long before you realize or worry about the fact you are getting screwed

like in every other pyramid scheme
