Knowingly, and done with intent, and the shadows that will be faced for every serious harm is not for the faint hearted. Real harm has real consequence.

This was in the news last year. Some German guy did the same thing with a meat hook. Here's a link to the news story:

But this invention brings some big questions. I mean, after you throw this device up onto the power line and that razor blade slices into the insulation, how do you get it off when you are done?

And how do you keep yourself from being vaporized or otherwise maimed or injured in the process?

Good question. Probably a quick snap of the wrist with the tether cable is just enough to throw the off center hook free of the lines. The device is safe but the overall practice certainly has its risks. For our spec ops guys this certainly serves a purpose. For the rest of us it would be a nice addition to the kit.

I think the jungle or dessert is ridiculous too. However, As operators find themselves in more and more urban/semi-urban environments, this will be pretty handy.

Now I am off to make my own and run up my neighbors electrical bill

I was thinking the same thing, making my own.

As long as the device was applied after the transformer on the pole (which reduces down to 220) but before the meter, I don't believe it would affect your neighbor's (or your) bill.

Off to the shed, it's gonna be a long night.

looks like a cool device, simple design that could be home built if need be. It is something to throw in your survival gear!
