Two People = Same Dream!

Good day, fellow people of ATS!

So, a few weeks ago my Aunt and I had a very weird experience in our dreams. We actually dreamed about the very same thing. Now this has never happened to us before and we're very curious as to how the heck was that possible to dream of the same thing. We don't practice lucid dreaming and we don't bother with meditation or astro traveling.

In case you're wondering on what the dream is about:

It starts off that I find myself in a very lavish and private restaurant. I'm sitting down in front of a table and my Aunt is actually sitting next to me. It seems that we're waiting for someone (and it's not the waiter!) but we have no idea how we got there or why we're there in the first place. The strange part is that when the person who we were waiting on shows up it turns out to be a relative of my aunt! (I don't remember if it was her brother or sister) Now you may all think that that's nothing strange and I shouldn't be shocked over that but I actually do find it surprising because I only know a certain few of her relatives.

She has many other brothers and sisters that she's talked about before but I've never met them nor have I seen a picture of how they look like. In my dream I recognized who this person was and I just KNEW that it was a brother or sister but I've never met them in real life (When I woke up I forgot who or how they looked like).

So, the next morning I decided to tell my Aunt about my silly dream and boy was I shocked when she cried out "You too?!". She couldn't believe that we actually dreamed about the exact same thing. The restaurant, the person we met, everything was exactly the same! The funny thing about it is that she doesn't remember which one of her brothers of sisters it was that we met in the dream. We both woke up clueless.

So, do any of you have any idea on how we managed to dream this together?

I don't know much about how dreams work so some input would be helpful

It's a rare but known phenomena called "Mutual Dreaming" or "Shared Dreaming" and Linda Magelleon wrote a book on the topic called, "Mutual Dreaming" other authors such as Robert Waggoner wrote about it in his book, "Lucid Dreaming: The Gateway to the Inner Self"

I've shared dreams with several people over the years, it's a very fascinating potential of dreaming.

Your minds/souls are connected.
My friend and I have been doing this for years,
not too often but it happens.
Anyways we've always summed it up to being spiritually 'connected' in a sense..
Our minds continue to communicate after we are done speaking, etc.

My twin sister and I when younger, many moons ago, used to have lots of fun having the same thoughts and imagery. Pains, aches and such.

I even discovered not so long ago that somehow we still managed to create the same passwords for loggin on to our home computers and laptops.

Wow! I think that is incredible! I never heard of mutual dreaming! This reminds me of a mutual dream I once had with my sister.

Around 2 years ago I had a dream where there was pandemonium in the streets of my hometown and I was walking around, calmer then anyone else around. I think it was supposed to be the end of the world, or something. I decided to go to the local KFC and get myself a spicy big crunch for a last meal. Even though it was armageddon outside, the KFC was still open for some reason. I walked in made my order, and went to sit in the dining area and wait for my order, and my little sister was there with some friends. I went to the table and sat down, and we laughed about how crazy things were going. Then I woke up.

Last year, my sister came back to town, from University. I had a party at my place and my little brother showed up (but not my sister), we were chatting about dreams we had. I told him about my KFC armageddon dream and he had the most startled look on his face, and told me what my little sister told him.

Around the same time I had my dream, she was about 2500 kilometers away and she had a very similar dream. Pandemonium in the streets of our home town, armageddon time, and she decided to have KFC for a last meal. She was there with some friends and she was laughing about how crazy everyone was. The only thing different was that I was not in her dream.

I was floored by the story, so I confirmed it with my sister at the next family dinner at my folks house. Now I know what to call it, mutual dreaming.

i know that this happens, but not how.

i shared a dream with two others once, we found out about it the next day.

one was a child, and she said, but then there's the dream, but it's ok.

i figured she would grow up to be wise and strong, since she had learned to accept even that which is not understandable.

This mutual dreaming may happen more than we think it would take both MD's to remember there dreams though or you would never know!

When I was younger and very eager to tell other people dreams that involved them, encounters like this were certainly on the up side. Often it would be lucid dreams where I was lucid and they were not that these mutual encounters seemed to occur more often.

There is some real beauty in these encounters, different friends and people I wouldn't expect to have memory of such unique subjective dream expeirences yet we have had conversations, recognized the surroundings. It's hard to dismiss this as just a coincidence, it's very real.

Dreams are so understudied and unexplored, having had lucid dreams, precognitive dreams and share dreams... I think humanity is really missing the mark on exploring inner-space en mass... to many distractions and ignorance regarding what dreaming really is and what it's potential is.

We all need to open up to the fact we are all dreamers, and that dreams are another type of reality that we exist in, one that is non-physical, beautiful, spiritual and an extension of our existence.

Just to play skeptic, not of you but of your aunt, is she into paranormal/psychic phenomena? Are you both into it and talk about it regularly? It's weird that she wouldn't recognize the person.

I think dreams can help with things that go on in are waking life! We spend 1/3 of our whole lives in sleeping i want to know what i've been thinking about! so i remember most of my dreams every morning.
