I had recently heard about this phenomenon about "gravity hills". You can park your car at the bottom of one of these hills (in neutral with the brakes off) and it will roll uphill.

Does anyone know anymore information, or have any educated theories about how this can occure?

The Mystery Spot - Santa Cruz, Ca
The Mystery Spot is an area about 150 feet in diameter located in the redwood forests just outside of Santa Cruz, California. Within the Mystery Spot you will be baffled as the laws of physics and gravity cease to exist.
Discovered in 1939 and opened to the public in 1940, the Mystery Spot has amazed and perplexed hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world. Many return again to experience the puzzling variations in gravity, perspective, height and more.
Theories: Flying saucer fans speculate that cones of metal were secretly brought here and buried in our earth as guidance systems for their spacecraft. Other theories about what causes the Mystery Spot include carbon dioxide seeping out of the earth, the highest dielectric biocosmic radiation known anywhere in the world, and radiesthesia... whatever the cause is, it remains a mystery.

The Oregon Vortex
The Oregon Vortex is a spherical field of force, half above the ground and half below the ground. The word "vortex" simply means a whirpool of force, like a whirling mass of water, especially one in which a force of suction operates, such as a whirlpool or a whirling mass of air, especially one in the form of a visible column or spiral, such as a tornado.

If I had to choose between "optical illusion" and "alien metal cones" or any other supernatural influence I would bet the farm on optical illusion.

Think about it. If it truly were some bizarre anomoly it wouldnt be a cheesy tourist attraction, it would be shut up tighter than area 51.

There is one of these in my home town, we called it Spook Hill.

They are optical illusions where the surounding landscape makes your brain think you are facing uphill even though you are facing downhill. These areas are more common in wooded areas because trees growing on a slant add to the illusion, though other ground features can do the same.

The human brain relies much more on visual information for judging slope than it does on the feel of gravity.

There may be a few spots that do this because some other effect but i've never seen any information on any of them.

From the Oregonvortex.com site:

On the site it claims that you somehow get shorter or taller by moving around in the "vortex." If you look at the pictures above that they use for proof, you should notice that the position is lower on the left rather than revel in the "mystery."

IMO, totally optical. I've noticed the same effect driving into my hometown.. at a certain intersection it seems like you're going up a slight hill, but if you release your brakes in neutral you'll start rolling down.

There is one in NJ, but it is on an highway off-ramp so I wouldn't advise attempting it.

i found this article, a man went out with a GPS to sattelite link, and there was a 20 foot difference going up from where u start rolling to where the car comes to a rest, you really do roll up hill. I agree most of them are an optical illusion, but many of them seem to have something else there.

They have had a few shows on Discovery about the Oregon vortex.
I have never been there, but from what you can see on TV,things do seem odd.Im not saying it has anything to do with aliens, but more so the earth itself.
I think physics have alot to do with it as well.
If you 'watch' the demo above, you can see that one person is taller than the other. When they change position, they are at almost equal hieghts.
I dont think you can judge from an image in this situation.
Like I said, never been to any of these things, but video has shown it is indeed an odd thing that happens.Optical illusions?Maybe some, but while in the open it without trees and the like, you can still see the affect.

... if you neglect to notice that one guy is obviously lower than the other guy in the first place. I can stand on a bucket and be the same height as someone taller than me, and then when we switch places suddenly he's way taller. Whoa! ... it's the same effect. Just look closer. I don't buy it.

The guy who tested it with a GPS is somewhat convincing, but GPS units for a long time had an intentional error margin that you wouldn't always be able to get rid of by simply taking more readings and getting an average. An easier way to test that would be with a simple leveling tool. If you move one in a straight line over the marks and it doesn't change, then it can be assumed that it's an optical illusion.

You are failing to recognize that the ground is flat.An they prove that by using a level.
Flat ground, one person shorter than the other at one point,at another they are the same.
I will try and find video to show.

We've got one in New Brunswick Canada, they call it Magnetic hill and its another tourist trap.

Nothing crazy. Just an illusion.

While the hills your talk of are all fairly simple optical illusions, I understand the oregonvortex is quite another phenomena - while it may be optical in the end it seems more like an error in the makeup of the area or some kind of seam in the earth or our universe. Had only the site talked about it I would assume it's like all the rest of the tourist traps, but there are too many storys about it to dismiss it as a hoax. Do a search for yourself.

Did a search, read 3 sites, and still refuted for those who don't have a hardheaded desire to believe no matter how obvious the truth is.

"The only instrument we know that will measure the height change is a camera..."

LOL! Not a tape measure if this Oregon vortex is real? Further proof that the effect is OPTICAL.
