A review of the '78 Hilton bombing, for those not familiar with the case:
False Flag Down Under: The '78 Sydney Hilton Hotel Bombing
On 2-13-78 a powerful bomb exploded in a dumpster outside the Hilton Hotel in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. A cop and two garbage collectors
were killed, and 11 more wounded. A meeting of bigwigs attending the first Commonwealth Heads of Government Regional Meeting (CHOGRM), described as
a gathering of government leaders from former British colonies, was occurring in the hotel at the time.
A trial in another matter began in February 1979 for three men also suspected in the bombing, and all three defendants were eventually convicted. The
major evidence against them was the testimony of a police informer within their ranks. They were pardoned and released in 1985, and awarded
compensation for false imprisonment.
In 1989 one of the three and and another who confessed were tried for the bombing and sent to prison. The first had his conviction overturned on
appeal eight months later, and the statements of the confessor was riddled with inconsistencies.
Numerous other anomalies were discovered which points to covert operations:

--The driver of the truck, Bill Ebb, stated that police had prevented three earlier trucks from emptying the bin which was overflowing with
rubbish.
--The garbage bin had not been searched for bombs. Searching bins is normally a high priority, and is specified in police protocols.
--The entire truck and all bomb fragments were dumped immediately afterwards at an unrecorded location. This prevented forensic evidence, such as the
type of explosive used, from being gathered. ...
--Army dog handler Keith Burley said that his dogs could smell very small quantities of explosives, and were expected to be used for the event. He
said they were unexpectedly called off a few days prior without explanation.
--The officer-in-charge of police immediately after the bombing, Inspector Ian MacDonald, claimed there had been a "cover-up"
--A scientist working for a government lab claimed they had made two fake bombs in the week prior to the bombing at the behest of the intelligence
agencies. The bombs were designed not to explode but could do so in a garbage truck compactor.
--Another man claimed that an army officer had admitted planting the bomb by switching rubbish bins 24 hours earlier. He was never called as a
witness at the coronial inquest.
--The principal private secretary of a federal senator was told that the bomb squad was waiting nearby at this early hour of the morning. The
government would not permit people from the bomb squad to be called as witnesses to the inquest.
Due to the suspicious nature of the crime, the New South Wales parliament voted for an inquiry in 1991 and 1995, but the Federal Government of
Australia refused to carry one out.
One thing was very clear. It was the security establishment that benefited from the bombing:

"Over the following 18 months, Fraser’s right-wing government, with Labor’s support, used the Hilton bombing as the pretext to carry through a
far-reaching expansion in the powers and resources of the police and security apparatus. The changes included vast surveillance powers for the
Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), the formation of the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the creation of para-military units in
state police forces and domestic Special Air Service (SAS) units in the Australian Defence Forces (ADF) and the establishment of Crisis Policy Centres
to take control over parts of the country in times of alleged emergency."
