So I'm sure this has been posted before somewhere but I've recently come across this story.

Source - Wikipedia - en.wikipedia.org...

Anatoliy Mikhaylovich Golitsyn is a Soviet KGB defector and author of two books about the long-term deception strategy of the KGB leadership. He was born in Piryatin, Ukrainian SSR. He provided "a wide range of intelligence to the CIA on the operations of most of the 'Lines' (departments) at the Helsinki and other residencies, as well as KGB methods of recruiting and running agents." He is an Honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and, as late as 1984, was an American citizen.

Golitsyn worked in the strategic planning department of the KGB in the rank of Major.

He defected with his wife and daughter to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) via Helsinki on December 15, 1961 taking a train to Haaparanta in the Finnish-Swedish border town where he was flown to the United States via Stockholm and was interviewed by James Jesus Angleton, CIA counter-intelligence director.

In 1984, Golitsyn published the book New Lies For Old,[13] wherein he predicted the collapse of the communist bloc orchestrated from above. He warned about a long-term deception strategy designed to lull the West into a false sense of security, and finally economically cripple and diplomatically isolate the United States. Among other things, Golitsyn stated:

"The 'liberalization' [in the Soviet Union] would be spectacular and impressive. Formal pronouncements might be made about a reduction in the communist party's role; its monopoly would be apparently curtailed."
"If [liberalization] should be extended to East Germany, demolition of the Berlin Wall might even be contemplated."
"The European Parliament might become an all-European socialist parliament with representation from the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. 'Europe from the Atlantic to the Urals' would turn out to be a neutral, socialist Europe."

Angleton and Golitsyn reportedly sought the assistance of William F. Buckley, Jr. (himself once a CIA man) in writing New Lies for Old. Buckley refused but later went on to write a novel about Angleton, Spytime: The Undoing of James Jesus Angleton.[14]
[edit] The Perestroika Deception

In 1995 he published a book containing purported memoranda attributed to Golitsyn entitled The Perestroika Deception which claimed:

"The [Soviet] strategists are concealing the secret coordination that exists and will continue between Moscow and the 'nationalist' leaders of [the] 'independent' republics."
"The power of the KGB remains as great as ever... Talk of cosmetic changes in the KGB and its supervision is deliberately publicized to support the myth of 'democratization' of the Soviet political system."
"Scratch these new, instant Soviet 'democrats,' 'anti-Communists,' and 'nationalists' who have sprouted out of nowhere, and underneath will be found secret Party members or KGB agents."

So what are your thoughts on this theory?

I always partially thought that Golitsyn was onto something with his wolf in labs clothing theory. It does seem a little unbelievable that with the 100,000’s of Party members in Russia, the breakaway Republics and the Western world, (C)communism as a movement would end with the end of the Cold War. Most of the die hards merged with the Green movements and existing socialist parties in Western Europe/America/former Soviet states changing their labels but not their motivations, beliefs and tactics.

As far as it being a KGB plot though, I don’t know that I can buy that. Even if Perestroika was some secret KGB plot to play dead it obviously got away from them.

It may have some merit.

Putin and his KGB buddies virtually took over the country and run it still.

It worked so well, George Bush Senior, did exactly the same, and has the CIA running the US.

Both Russian Secret Service and the US CIA are trained and funded to de-stablize and overthrow foreign countries.
Why would they need people telling them what to do, when they can use their own skills to run their own country.

Having any Govt levels of secrecy that even an elected president/senator is not privy to means that the Govt and president is not running the country, the secret service(s) and military are.

I was always wondering why Russia seems to sit back and let Obama Bush and NATO, go into innocent countries and just decimate them to the core. So Russia must approve of, or be in on it? I also never thought it was too far fetched to imagine the possibility of our curent Prez being a mole like those well assimilated Russians, and that attractive redhead, who got alot of publicity. Maybe America is being taken over. Look at all the shocking Alien things that have entered there in, and operate like nothing is unusual. The TSA, the Judges, the paramilitary police, Obama's strange statement about a civillian army. (It's in a vid.)
