Senate Republicans call for dismantling CIA

Sen. Pat Roberts and the republicans want to consolidate all the intelligence gathering functions of the United States under a single new office that reports to nobody except the president.



Oh big brother! This is really scary. First the Reichstag fire, now the Gestapo. This nifty piece of nightmare legislation will probably be quietly signed in the background of the next terrorist event circus. Surprise surprise, even Kerry thinks this is a good idea.
Awww geez. May have to change my slogan to "deny intelligence."

Obviously something has to be done to placate public fears about intelligence. The two biggest investigations of the 21st century both concluded U.S. intelligence organizations were incompetent. Would it be better to allow the status quo of intelligence to remain to lie/screw up again or at least publicly appear to attempt to "fix" it?

As it currently stands, any intelligence sources will not be considered legitimate until visible change is shown. While I think this is good in that it will prevent future wars because the public will no longer buy into these fake threat assessments, if there is to be any further warring, this has to be done to at least attempt credibility restoration.

Nooooo...we can't have Fox Mulder and Frank Parker and Jack Bauer under the same roof all reporting to Martin Sheen.

It would ruin TV.

Anyway, this is a very interesting move for the govt. I am curious if they want to essentially dismantle the CIA so it will make survalience easier on the countries own people and they wont have to trade intellegence like they do through Echelon.

Well, the way I see it is that since the CIA "cannot" conduct operations on it's own citizens they are going to dis assemble the agency. With out the agency and it's restrictions, they can take all those former operatives and apply their skills with out any legal repurcussions. Wait it gets worse, we are left depending on out side intelligence for our info. Not that the Navy can't handle our intelligence needs, but there goes all of our established contacts and sources. The CIA are not incapable, other wise they would have been finished along time ago.

I am getting the impression that the CIA will be re organized to be more like the OSS was. I cannot say for sure, I am speculating.

Just don't seem right, something more is going on. Everyone should contact the Neighborhood Watch and get involved. The more informed everyone is, the easier it will be for us all later.

Maybe we can establish an ATS chapter, what ever happens people need to take more into their own hands. Work with local authorities, volunteer and get the word out.

I don't think they will be left to rely on outside intelligence, but instead of giving the CIA national mandates, they just add the international mandate the CIA has to something like the FBI.

Like this you'll have 1 single agency do both national and international intelligence gathering.

People are against alowing the CIA to gain national authority, but I haven't heard many people talk against or think about the FBI having international authority.

By dismantling the CIA and adding its full workforce and mandate to the FBI, the objection against giving the CIA national authority is relieved and they still get what they want in the end, 1 single intelligence body that can freely spy on both US citizen and foreign nationals, that can conduct investigations on US citizens abroad and at home, that can track and document peoples actions nomatter where they go.

Well, as for the out side info, every morning the President recieves an PDB.
A "super-secret" Presidential Daily Briefing, that is compiled by the DCI.

This is going to be replaced by another, so now who supplies the intel?
Guess we can only wait and see.

These are classic Hegelian tactics. Create a problem, incorrectly identify the cause, then further the agenda by providing an unnecessary "remedy". This is truly the creation of a secret state police, right before our very eyes. If 911 was Bush's Reichstag fire, than this new office will surly be his gestapo. Might as well just call it the KGB.

If this passes quietly, quickly, and under the guise of defending national security, be afraid. Marshall law cannot be far behind.

If I hear of any more legislation with the words "homeland" or "patriot" in their name, I'm gonna puke.
