I heard that this might get transferred to the Rant threads which is fine. I don't know where to find the rant forums so I posted it here being that this is related to media.

Is it me or is the government/media TRYING to get people scared or freaked out about the weather? Honestly, first there was Irene. I was tracking the story from the moment it started and I swear to god I really saw articles with people being quoted saying things like "We're going to be flooded for years" and "It's going to cause BILLIONS of dollars in damage". The hurricane was supposedly SO TERRIBLE that there were evacuations, transport services where shut down, and the national guard was activated BEFORE the hurricane even hit land.

As time went on the hurricane became smaller and smaller till it was a simple tropical storm. Last time I checked, the east cost has dealt with hurricanes and tropical storms for decades and it's never been a problem before, certainly not to the extent of needed this kind of media paranoia.

Then there was tropical storm Katia. That's right, not HURRICANE Katia, but a simple tropical storm that wasn't even coming towards the east coast but simply raining down near Bermuda. The media kept saying "Oooooo watch out it may come at us ANY day now! Oh so scary!"

AND NOW There's tropical storm Lee. It's not even a hurricane but just because it's heading towards the coast that the media is already talking about possible evacuations in New Orleans.
Possible Evactuations In New Orleans

Now I know they're not coming out and saying "IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD" like they did with Irene but I can't help but feel that the media is blowing every single storm related situation out of proportion.

They keep claiming it's because of Katrina but I don't buy it.

It's almost like they WANT us to be freaked out fearing for our lives for whatever reason.

There was this one guy's post here on ATS, don't remember his name sorry dude, but he said he believed that the media was trying to scare people in an attempt to make Obama look like a hero by taking care of the people in a time of crisis, being that his popularity is crappy and with the oncoming election next year.

What do you people think is going on, if anything at all?

I don't know whats going on but honestly I have to agree, the media is over hyping these storms this season and the storms are not even that serious. Where is the news on Fukushima? Surely that's going to affect more people to a higher degree than seasonal storms that you should expect living in the southeast and sometimes east coast.
I could understand if it was a huge category 5 barreling straight towards NY but come on Irene didn't even get past a 3.

Didn't you get the memo? Americans thrive on a steady diet of fear, terror, doom and gloom. I know this because the MSM told me after conducting a poll!

If they don't get it from the news they'll get it from TV, movies, and music videos.

Simple addiction. People are thriving off fear, impending doom and disaster for excitement. Its sad and scary at the same time because it shows as a society how desensitized we have become....no longer does watching a a movie fill that excitement gap, we need to feel alive by thinking it can end at any point and it will end....so be prepared and enjoy the adrenaline rush in the meantime. Society is going masochistic....

Enjoy this and please listen to the lyrics:

Welcome to the time of insanity for those that do not see and those that do not hear...

The PTB need "reasons" To justify their own insanity.

They are jealous and will never be "starlight".....

All could get quite entertaining, my friends...

I am sure they are trying to prepare everyone for the "Day After Tomorrow" when people will get used to evacuations due to severe weather. People will be herded into FEMA camps because of severe weather caused by HAARP. Then, when enough people are contained and the weather freezes things over. the seed vault in the north will be used to germinate organic crops.

The media is definitely being used to divert attention away from wars in the east, oil leak in the Gulf, and the radiation that is continuing to spew in Japan. The real world news lies outside your tv screen.

Acronym for F.E.A.R.

F = False
E = Evidence
A = Appearing
R = Real

There in the acronym also lies the definition of fear. Nuff said.

Listen, the people who run media outlets nationwide know one thing:
People are addicted to watching television.
So with that in mind, they know how to persuade their viewers.
They know how to get people to act.
They know how to get people to consume. (even in a "recession")
They know how to make people feel helpless.
It get's worse each and every day.

Why do you think that there is always bad news on the television? (throughout the US at least)
Or always reality TV, or idolistic shows that people are addicted too?
Sexual references in everything and fear-driven thought patterns?
Holiday driven sales and specials blasted on the TV year-round?
I can list about 1000 things that are persuasive.

The mainstream media as a whole is a joke.
I laugh at those who think they have original thoughts but in reality are just based on what they've watched on TV. It's almost pathetic that people seem like they can't think for themselves.
TV has turned people into lemmings jumping off a cliff without knowing why.

Think it's a bit ridiculous?
The only answer is to know the difference, and not be persuaded...

... or turn it off.

I didn't even think about the FEMA camps being related to this some but you could be right!!!

That's something that really scares me what with the thousands of biodegradable coffins to go along with it. Do you ever have that moment where you're reading the news or some event happens in the world and you freak out a little because you're like, "Oh god it's all coming true now, the pieces are falling into place"?

I remember watching this video about the illuminati and mind control in the media and there was this ad that the vid showed. I wish I had a link to it to show you.
What I liked about it was that it wasn't really obvious like some of the sexual ads are; that you actually had to really look at the photo to see it.
To someone who's just glancing at it or not looking it looked like just a picture of happy people at the beach, but if you really looked EVERY SINGLE PERSON was perfectly positioned in a sexually suggestive pose. Coincidence? No not at all.

This is exactly what I have been talking to my wife and friends about here. These storms and stuff are nothing more than places normally get in this season. It is actually a little late. There should have been more already. This is one reason we are so dry.

They are trying to boost Obama's ratings. They see that "catching Osama" didn't give him the boost he needed. The economy tanking over-road that situation. Now these storms they must over-react to. Failure to show that they got it handled before it hits shows that they are better than Bush. What is showing to me is a bunch of Chicken Little's.

With the advent of the internet and the exploding social media outlets, I honestly don't know why people turn on the T.V. any more to get their news. Old habits are hard to break I guess.

I'm going over to the cryptozoolgy boards now to see where the REAL trolls are.
