Um, NOT!

I found this site, it is worrying. I wanted everyones opinion on it...

They claim that various types of seaweed will clear radiation from your body. They are selling the Fukoshima Pack which is meant to keep you safe, and for only US$99 per pop!

Some of the web sites claims:

Doctors in the Chernobyl area, where radiation levels in Ukraine have been very high since the accident, have shown that daily spirulina consumption in 20 days lead to a 50% reduction in measurements of radiation in patients’ urine. Testing done in 1990 in Belarus concluded that spirulina consumption promotes the evacuation of radioactive nucleotides from the body. Further studies showed that the consumption of spirulina also reduced the radiation load of radioactive nucleotides, strontium and cesium ingested in contaminated foods.

Can this be true?

They gpo on to say that

this formula will help not only nourish and cleanse you but also help protect you from radiation and help your body detox itself from the same.

Really!?

So can seaweed protect us from radiatin?

This is on the companies web site, in a special section called "Alex Jones PrisonPlanet & Infowars.com Specials"

Oh the irony!

And here I thought I was going to have to start slapping seaweed all over my laptop.

Not that kind of virus I see.

Seaweed does have many amazing uses and it seems we are still discovering what this stuff is capable of.

Thanks

I don't think anything you can take orally, or internally at all really, can prevent radiation poisoning. Radiation works beyond the chemical level.

It might help the symptoms and if you're not at a lethal level, help you recover if it has any properties (I opt for, with seaweed. lots of benefit to it all over the place!) that help..

Or else all those dudes in radiation suits would just bung down a large bowl of miso soup choc full of seaweed!

Sounds like some snake-oil salesman capitalizing on people's fears of radiation.
I'm all for alternative medicines...if they've been shown to work, and many have.
But, this sounds like a scam to me.

Iodine pills help with preventing cancer in the thyroid, but they are only effective for like 2 weeks.

While seaweed is a natural source of iodine - and iodine is used to (supposedly) offer protection to the thyroid gland from radiation exposure - it doesn't offer anywhere near the concentration needed. An obvious scuzzy marketing campaign with no other goal than to scam the fearful.

I don't know about the seaweed, but I remember reading about the survivors near ground zero during the bombings at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The people who survived with the least amount of burns from the bombings as well as the fallout were eating whole leaf aloe as a regular part of their daily diet.

In Japan and in China, a phrase “Ishoku-dogen” or “Yakushoku-dogen” exists sensuously within our daily living. It means, meals to keep up your health and medicine aren't two different things. In other words, if you eat food which is medicinal, it will be a medicine in itself working as preventive medicine.

(3) A Relief Report by Prof. Nagai (from August to October 1945)
According to a relief report made by Prof. Nagai at university of Nagaski during those few months, treating methods of A-bomb victims were as follow :
1)Environmental treatment ( treatment given at home, preferably in the country where fresh air and food can be obtained).
2)Balneotherapy
3)Intramuscular injection of one's blood
4)General conservative treatment :
(a)External wound
(b)External burn
(c)Early appearing blood disorder
(d)Early appearing disorder of digestive organ
(e)Late blood disorder ll liver treatment by vegetable, bone marrow soup, and cucumber etc. were used. Plenty of fruits such as pear, persimmon etc. were given as the source of vitamin. Patients were well - nourished since they practiced “Rest at home treatment” instead of being hospitalized, having potatoes, pumpkins wax gourds etc. as side dishes. Other than the things previously stated, injection of vitamin C and B were given and for high fever phenacetin and sulfamin, but they weren't effective.
(f)About Fork Remedy ( Remedies without doctor's instructions, but folk ways ) Boiled juice of followings were used to cure A-bomb disease, showing good results. They were : persimmon leaves, Houttuyniae Herba. Aloe, Nandina Domestica Thunb, Perilla.
(g)Some of the victims drank vinegar , getting good results. And there were some, knowing that their death were unavoidable, drank a lot of Japanese sake desperately, but got well.

Just an FYI.

Spirulina is not seaweed. It is algae and grows in fresh water.

It is very good for protein and nutrients.

Peace

Yes it is true. Spurilina or blue green algae has all sorts of healing properties and many people who would normally have died from radiation recovered because of it.

I wish people would back up radical claims with some evidence, or even a rational explanation of their thoughts, because to be frank - this post is a meaningless waste of time without it.
