yeah but we still went to war, didn't we?

The Communist Chinese were involved in that scenario and we were supporting the South Viet Namese agasint the North Viet Cong. The liberal left screwed it for us so that we never really won the war like we all did WWII. Then the frikken leftist anti war hippies and radicals did the Code Pink thing and humiliated our returning veterans who had their limbs blown off, and they had riots at Kent State university. See thats how that went.

At other times Ghandi was an abosolute pacifist to the point of being ridiculous, such as when he was asked what to do if a robber came into your home, and his final awnser, not to compel the robber to inflict more violence on you or your neighbors, to leave all your possessions by an open window, and let the robber steal you blind.

Ghandi believed the robber would develop a guilty conscience and return all your belongings, and even work for you.

It's not ridiculous. It's incorporating a moral stance as an element of personal identity, and then sticking to it, because it's something that is part of who *you* are, irrespective of what the other person does.

Gandhi was also a brahmachari, who did japa. He would have believed very strongly in continued existence after death. It's also important to understand that brahmacharya (complete avoidance of sexuality in any form; not merely ejaculation, but even thinking anything sexually oriented, when it is done properly) is spiritually and energetically fortifying to an incredible degree.

I am not truly sexually abstinent, (I masturbate at times) but I do japa (chanting with beads) periodically, and even with the small amount I've done it, I've noticed a visible increase in my own energetic level. I'm also not particularly disciplined concerning my diet. Given the presumed level of his sadhana, however, I can hardly even begin to imagine what his state was like.

In that sense, he was basically the spiritual or energetic version of a very strong professional weightlifter; so he was able to resist the urge to be violent and do other such things, much more effectively than most people.

I think that many of you, just by posting a reply, have shown that while you may not be vengeful, you most certainly are asses. I mean, why must people submit to the urge to be so negative and start name calling when the OP only seems to want to find out why the American persona is one of arrogance and anger. I didn't read anywhere that said old so and so specifically sucks eggs but some seem to have taken it as a personal attack and show where the real ignorance lies by calling names and other fourth grade nonsense.
I agree that closed-mindedness runs rampant throughout our country and hope to try to change it one smile at a time.

not true at all!

the U.S. was the one and only country who dared to use the atomic bombs and nuclear weapons to mas murder millions of civilians in Japan (Hiroshima and Nagasaki) in 1945! yet, they dictate on which country is allowed to posses nuclear power and weapons of mass destruction etc... when no other country has made such evil things as the US has made towards the humanity!!!
the US is an abomination and it will fall like Sodom and Gomorrah...
like any other great superpower in the past... Rise and Fall (what goes up must come down) the US has no other way to go but fall on it's knees!

i think the US has enjoyed being the superpower of the world for a time far too long... unfortunately when the US goes down so will the rest of the world

the communism and socialism has never ever been as bad as the capitalism!
capitalism = to live on someone else back = rulers and slaves = rich and poor etc.... just not what humanity should be!!

Sorry guys, but I'm starting to think this place isn't really my scene. I hope the New World Order is defeated, but tbh I really hope you guys aren't the order that replaces it, because the only solutions you know are blood and guts. None of you guys really 'get' the power of peace. Well, a few of you do, but not very many.

Thank you for all your answers people.

What you don't get is the power of those trying to take over America and their propaganda about 'peace being the only way' crap. We are being spun like a top with them trying to make us think we need to lay down our guns and be 'nice'. Luckily most of us realize they are lying thru their teeth to some degree or another.

But never mind little rabbit.. run away!

Maybe the rest of the world shouldn't have depended on America so much then, and depended more on themselves.

Cheers

It's the american culture
to be competitive no matter what the consequences.
By hook or crook to get to the ' top of the ladder',
whether as Tonya Harding, bashing the knee's out of
her skating competitor;
or as Enron who stole and lied at the expense of
the hard working middle class.
Other cultures are not so programed to 'keep up with the Jones's,
or in stabbing others in the back to climb the corrupt corporate ladder.

It's all about money.. Nothing more.
America will fall solely because of money and greed.
Benjamin Franklin said it best.. "When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic. "

As I have said I find it wierd that the progressive movement in the United States is the worst world wars ever in the history of the world.Woodrow Wilson,Franklin Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson and etc.So I understand the U.S.also killed alot of people, but they never mass murder their own people or give orders for no reason at all to bomb people to death.

Fact remains is World War 2 happened during the worst communism in the world and The United States Progressive Era was born for the first time ever and Woodrow Wilson segregated people and changed words around and Franklin Roosevelt did the same thing.Bush and Obama seem to be doing the same stuff. So I do put some blame on the U.S.because of the Progressive Era being born.It is reailty anyways and nothing can stop it.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki would have plenty to say about this. I mean I'm sure those many thousands of civilians weren't bombing Pearl Harbor....and the reason for the Pearl Harbor event is another matter entirely :\.

Americans believe that noble intentions can justify evil actions.

Americans believe that our morals do not need anyone else’s approval.

Americans believe that the way to exert our will is by careful subversion instead of strength.

Americans believe that if careful subversion doesn’t work we will show you our strength; then you better run.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is REAGONOMICS in a nutshell.

(I wrote this a couple-three years ago [mostly just being facetious] thinking it would build into an article or a paper or even a fictional story but it never did. Figured eventually I would find a place for it on ATS and now I have. Here ya go. Enjoy.)

Here is my opinion involving the death penalty. Keep in mind I am also a U.S. citizen.

The death penalty is like an easy out for those with life sentences. They don't have to spend all of their lives sitting in a cell waiting to pass away. On the other hand, we are having major problems with overcrowded prisons. We all know why, which can be clearly seen on the global incident map website, but since they [the government] will never decriminalize them. The death penalty seems fit in order to make room for more.

It's already what, around $14,000 per inmate with a life sentence that we are spending to keep them housed and fed till they die? It is probably more now as I read that one a few years back, but I hope you can see what my point of view is involving this.

It is simple if the U.S.would have attacked Japan wirth ground troops it was estimated the U.S. probably would have lost 500,000 or more men.So they never would have attemtped that when Japan could have actualy won the war agaisnt the U.S.

Back in those days Japan would have realized they have a chance to take over the United States they would have done it.
