Drilling into the San Andreas

Could this have something to do with the current rise in activity along the San Andreas fault?

I look at it this way. Take an abcess under your tooth. Your tooth has lifted up. The dentist goes in and drills and drains your abcess. The tooth settlem back down to where it was. OK I know it is not a very good analogy, and maybe somebody can come up with something better. But reasonably speaking I am sure most of you can understand what I am trying to say.

Understanding what happens at the epicenter of an earthquake, as the tectonic plates beneath the earth shift and the earth shakes, could help us better predict when and where the next big one will hit.
For the past six years scientists from a number of institutions have joined in a project called San Andreas Fault Observatory at Depth, or SAFOD.
They have drilled to the core of the San Andreas Fault, near Parkfield California, down to a specific area along the fault known to experience a number of small earthquakes every year."

isnt a san andreas big one wayyy overdue?

and wouldnt a rise in activity overthere be big ones? considering that its always very active..

I have no idea I'm afraid. Just hoping one of our more learned friends here on ATS can put in a thought or two as to whether this will have any affect.....a bit like fracking but without all the chemical stuff!
