Was there a mistake in the team number or was it just a huge Lie?

because there's a 412th fighter wing doesn't mean there is a 411th! or 413th

I live where they live and there is a Seal Team 6... What I mean is some folks in my neighborhood are part of teams specifically 6...

I live in the Hampton Roads Va area.

That was a little too convenient if you ask me. I have to wonder if they were not killed to keep them quite about what really went down.

As far as I've heard Seal Teams Don't Know All Seal Teams... They don't all work together and I doubt they all know each others Teams Call Numbers For Torture Interrogation Purposes...I doubt there is even a Seal Team 6 anymore after that Call Number went Public.

As an honorary member of the fraternal order UDT/SEAL, I have to say that you are incorrect. SPECWAR is a very small and tight knit community. I know many of them(from 2,4, and 8 anyway) just from the annual reunion/demonstration at little creek each year. I also know some from when I was assigned to comnavspecwargru 2 in the 1980s. No, I was not and have never claimed to be a SEAL. That being said, I have served with some of them. SEAL team six went away(officially) around 1987(it was a long time ago so forgive my spotty memory). I didn't even know they were "devgru" until years later. Mainly because I went into private contracting after my eaos and did not keep up with the community for a few years. My point is that these guys are very tight knit and most of them know each other. Maybe not so much east coast and west coast, they don't seem to mix much.

The exact internal organization is classified, and the entire Naval Special Warfare program has undergone some significant changes over the past 5 years.

Back in 2007, I was interested in an internal recruiting effort within our A-school. They only wanted the smartest and fittest in our rating. As it was, then, we would be participating in a selection process (once we reached our permanent duty stations) for the Naval Special Warfare Development Group - trained similar to, but not quite the same as the S.E.A.L. teams.

The idea was for us to work side-by-side with civilian contractors to develop various military applications to serve as direct support for operating teams on the ground - such as UAVs and other equipment. They were looking at a serious manpower increase at the time, and I suspect they have undergone some organizational changes since then.

However - S.E.A.L. Team six and the Naval Special Warfare Development Group are often treated as being one in the same in most fact-sheets. What they are called now doesn't really change what their mission is.

I am a contract reservist - which put me in an awkward position regarding eligibility for the program. I never followed through once I got to my reserve station - and am somewhat disappointed in myself for not pursuing it more aggressively.

I believe the number was just used to conseal the identity of the SEAL team members involved.
