www.msnbc.msn.com...

At least he did not kill his ex and kids...That is all I can think to say at this moment!
So many these days seem to feel the need to exterminate the whole family when they get pissed off or depressed.

Diggs said the man and his ex-wife had quarreled over the man's living arrangements.

I have the most evil exwife that has ever walked the earth I think. And we have a kid. There is nothing that evil little troll of a woman could ever do to make me decapitate myself. My guess if that this man was mentally ill and never got the help he needed before any of this happened. It's sad really. I don't get the mentality of someone that would do such a thing to their self.........but then again maybe we are a different kind of crazy is why lol.

My guess is this woman got him to feel worthless about himself, thus giving him the death sentence it seems. Feelings are more powerful than logic in humans, yet we have a society which is geared completely towards logic, with no consideration for peoples feelings in law. Otherwise what this woman did, would be illegal. Wouldn´t that be a sick society, caring more about peoples feelings? Kind of like islam.

The article says the kids were not there at the time...Thank goodness! That definitely would have been a traumatizing thing to see.
I pretty much despise my ex husband but if he ever yanked his head off in front of me, it would be upsetting!

I would not agree with this totally.
Obviously we do not have the whole story but you can't assume blame lies on the ex wife. It says in the article she wasn't going to comply with his requests for living arrangements when he moved down to her location. Perhaps he was previously abusive or not self reliant and she did not want him squatting in her home.
It does not make her evil or wrong....I know I would not want my Ex living with me, if that was what this situation was about. His reaction seems like an over reaction based on the information given. However the argument turned out, it must have gotten heated enough for her to call authorities...I would not place all the blame on the woman.

Wow! Is it just me or does it seem like a lot more of this is going on lately....I feel very sad that people get this upset and out of control. Sometimes I think events like this happen when people hold a lot of emotions inside too long and/or they didn't get help when they really needed to.

I feel badly for the children...losing their father like that....it is fortunate they were not home when he killed himself....they did not have to witness such a horrible event.

It seems like every other day I am reading about parents turning on their children in anger and harming or killing them....and also children turning on their parents harming or killing them too. Today I was looking for another story...when I came across a story about 3 brothers that killed their mother because she wanted to play a game of yahtzee with them. Now I ask you...does that make any sense?

I am very, very worried about the direction a portion of society is headed...such hate and violence. It is very frightening to me.

It does seem to be the case so often these days!
I guess that is why I am just happy if he had to go off the deep end, he did not take the mother and children with him!

"I blame Dr. Spock."

I used to hear that a lot growing up during the '50s & '60s. The reference is not to the Spock of Star Trek: The Original Series, but to Dr. Benjamin Spock, who "wrote the book" on child-rearing from the '40s to the '80s. He advocated a much gentler approach to bringing up kids, and, as the quote indicates, many old-fashioned parents considered it far TOO gentle. My parents were, of course, among those. They believed in firm corporal punishment--for which I thank them to this day.

At the risk of being accused of hijacking this thread (and I apologize to the OP in advance), I just want to offer this bit of recent research:

Link

Those who were physically disciplined performed better than those who weren’t, in a whole series of categories, including school grades, an optimistic outlook on life, the willingness to perform volunteer work, and the ambition to attend college, Gunnoe found. And they performed no worse than those who weren’t spanked in areas like early sexual activity, getting into fights, and becoming depressed. She found little difference between the sexes or races.

Another study published in the Akron Law Review last year examined criminal records and found that children raised where a legal ban on parental corporal punishment is in effect are much more likely to be involved in crime.

A key focus of the work of Jason M. Fuller of the University of Akron Law School was Sweden, which 30 years ago became the first nation to impose a complete ban on physical discipline and is in many respects “an ideal laboratory to study spanking bans,” according to Fuller.

Since the spanking ban, child abuse rates in Sweden have exploded over 500 percent, according to police reports. Even just one year after the ban took effect, and after a massive government public education campaign, Fuller found that “not only were Swedish parents resorting to pushing, grabbing, and shoving more than U.S. parents, but they were also beating their children twice as often.”

After a decade of the ban, “rates of physical child abuse in Sweden had risen to three times the U.S. rate” and “from 1979 to 1994, Swedish children under seven endured an almost six-fold increase in physical abuse,” Fuller’s analysis revealed.

That, to me, is the major part of the answer to why families are going to hell in the last few generations....

Well that's probably a really painless way to go if your gonna commit suicide.

Instant death really and not really any chance to screw it up.

Not trying to be humorous or callous, but I'll blame this inncident on the world leaders mental condition too.
